What we know about Kylie and Jason's return to Neighbours

It’s almost time to wave goodbye to our good neighbours and good friends as Neighbours, the long-running Aussie soap, will cease production in June.

Last month, it was revealed that the Australian soap was looking for a new backer after Channel 5 said it would no longer broadcast it. However, the series, which has been airing for over 37 years, failed to find alternative funding, meaning that bosses decided to ‘rest it’.

In a tweet posted in March, the soap’s official account said: ‘We are so sorry to say that after nearly 37 years and almost 9,000 episodes broadcast we have to confirm that Neighbours will cease production in June.’

It isn’t all bad news, though. The momentous finale means many of Neighbours’ famous faces are making a return, including Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan.

So, Especially for You Neighbours fans, here’s everything Charlene and Scott have said about their much-anticipated return to Ramsay Street…

What have Kylie and Jason said about the Neighbours finale?

When the news broke that the show would end, Kylie took to Twitter to honour the series which gave her her start.

“Scott and Charlene are the ultimate Neighbours couple and it would not feel right to end the show without them

The pop princess wrote on Twitter: ‘I’ll be forever grateful for the experience & the friends I made on @neighbours. We had no idea how big the show would become and how passionately viewers would take it to heart.

Pure love! I can still hear Madge calling … CHARLENE!!!!’

While little has been said about their return since – most likely keeping it all under wraps for a special surprise – show bosses for Neighbours have revealed that Kylie and Jason were both more than up for coming back.

Jason Herbison, the executive producer, told Inside Soap: ‘Both Kylie and Jason needed very little persuading at all – they both appreciate the show and the special role that it has played in their careers.’

He also confirmed that the pair’s scene was already shot, adding that ‘not even the script department knew it was happening.’

With such secrecy around the return of the prodigal sweethearts, fans will just have to tune into the finale!
