Sophie Wessex looks ‘more confident on her own’ than when she is with Edward – expert

Queen joins Sophie Wessex for World Sight Day video call

Sophie Wessex recently stepped out for another public appearance as she visited the Corps of Army Music with her husband, Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex. The couple attended the engagement at Kneller Hall, Twickenham, as the Corps of Army music received a new royal title. The recent appearance is the fourth in a string of engagements for the Earl and Countess. They were also spotted together alongside the Queen, Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince Charles, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, and Princess Anne in Windsor Castle to thank local volunteers and key workers last week.

And according to one body language expert, the Countess of Wessex shows she is “more confident on her own” than when she’s with Prince Edward.

Energy insights reader Alison Ward told Express.co.uk: “The Countess looks like she has a lead on this relationship and looks far more confident on her own than when she is with Edward.”

The Countess has really been forced to step up in recent months, especially following the departure of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Whereas before she was a relatively unknown member of the Royal Family, now she is front and centre of the monarchy’s new look.

Royal author Phil Dampier told Femail: “Sophie is definitely taking on more and more high profile humanitarian jobs and seems to be performing more royal duties abroad.

“To some extent, she has been doing this for years but has not had the publicity because she’s been overshadowed by the more well-known royals.

“But I see a much, much bigger role for her with Harry and Meghan off the scene.

“Sophie is very good with people and comes across as caring and interested in the causes she visits.

“The Queen admires her and will give her total support if she wants to take on more duties. And with Charles and Camilla in their 70s and Anne 70 this year, Sophie is needed to play a much bigger role.”

Sophie has been married to Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex since June 19, 1999.

The couple married at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle, the same location where Prince Harry wed Meghan Markle a few years ago and have two children together.

Upon reading the pictures of the Earl and Countess of Wessex, Ms Ward said there was a stark difference between the couple’s body language when compared to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

She explained: “They sadly do not look as present as a couple, with their body language and energy moving away from each other. Just look at their eyes.”

Prince Edward, being the youngest of the Queen’s four children, has traditionally enjoyed a life away from the spotlight.

Prince Charles and Princess Anne usually found themselves more in the limelight as the oldest two, joined by Prince Andrew, Duke of York, in recent years.

Speaking about Prince Edward’s rare appearance at the engagement, Ms Ward said his body language could mean a number of different things, but predominantly he displays discomfort.

The energy insights reader added: “Edward looks like he is wearing a coat for a bigger, older person.

“Or does he want to shrink away so he doesn’t have to face what’s going on? Or does he want to be a kid again?”
