Savvy wife reveals how she managed to throw her dream wedding for JUST £480 — plus how you can get two free tickets to Thorpe Park

SAYING “I do” doesn’t have to cost you an arm and a leg.

When thrifty mum Kayleigh Hughes tied the knot with her childhood sweetheart Dave, inset, she threw her dream wedding — worth £4,500 — for just £480.

The promotionalcodes.org.uk blogger — mum to sons Joshua, five, Jaxon, three, and eight-month-old Kimi — slashed the price of their big day by shopping in the sales, making decorations and calling in favours from family and friends.

The 30-year-old, who is from Grantham, Lincs, said: “I’m a full-time mum, so splashing out wasn’t realistic. It’s amazing how much you can save if you put out feelers for help. It’s like that adage:

Don’t ask, don’t get.”

This is how she did it.

  • Flowers: Kayleigh’s biggest saving was on her extravagant flowers, which would have cost the couple £3,000. She said: “My husband is a manager of a flower wholesale company and his boss kindly gave us all the flowers as our wedding gift.”
  • Reception: The wedding party was at the village hall, which cost £80 to hire.
  • Ceremony: The church and organist, which should have set them back £500, was paid for by Kayleigh’s grandparents as their wedding present. Kayleigh’s aunt lent them her Land Rover so they could arrive in style.
  • Wedding buffet and cake: Kayleigh’s aunt made the cake and her mum decorated it, so she paid just £5 for it. Each of the 100 guests brought their own dish to create a buffet.
  • Dress: Kayleigh saved £600 by buying her dress for £300 in a sale. She also paid a combined £40 for her shoes and tiara. The shoes were marked down from £90 to £20, saving her £70.
  • Make-up: Other savings included hair and make-up. Kayleigh was quoted £230 for six people but opted for a non-pro who charged just £55 in all, saving £175.
  • Extras: A family friend took the photos, while bridesmaids bought their own dresses and Kayleigh made the decorations.
  • She said: “I saw marshmallow trees were £30 but I found a tutorial and made my own, which barely cost anything. “We also had homemade pink lemonade in cute drinking jars we decorated ourselves.”
