The US property market took a battering last year with sales declining, mortgage rates surging and house prices staying stubbornly high.

But while most Americans have been left struggling to buy a home, for cash-rich multi-millionaires the game of Mansion Monopoly has never looked so appealing.

FEMAIL has rounded up the top ten most expensive properties currently on the market across the US, with multiple bedrooms, lavish amenities, plush interiors and highly Instagrammable views being the running themes. 

The most costly – a sky-high penthouse in New York City – comes in at cool $250 million, while a roster of equally jaw-dropping listings featured on Zillow follow suit. Cast your eyes down to see how the other half live.

1. Rooms with a view! Central Park Tower Penthouse, New York: $250 MILLION

The 23-room penthouse at Central Park Tower lays claim to the title of being the highest residence in the world, soaring 1,416 feet above New York City from the 129th floor upwards

The sprawling apartment, which occupies the top three floors of the most significant building on Manhattan’s Billionaires’ Row, serves up seven bedrooms, eight bathrooms, along with stunning views of the city over Central Park beyond

The sprawling apartment, which occupies the top three floors of the most significant building on Manhattan’s Billionaires’ Row, serves up seven bedrooms, eight bathrooms, along with stunning views of the city over Central Park beyond.

Overall there is 17,545 square feet of interior space and 1,433 square feet of outdoor escape to explore. Some of the most impressive spaces include the grand salon complete with curtain windows and soaring 27-foot-high ceilings, while the park-facing master suite features its own sitting room, a pair of dressing rooms and en-suite bathrooms.

Construction on the property finished in 2020 and it went on to hit the market in September 2022. Zillow confirmed it is currently the most expensive property listing in the US and will set a new record should it sell at that price. 

2. Surf’s up… 33550 Pacific Coast Highway, Malibu: $225 MILLION

The property, which was completed in 2002 by renowned architect Robert AM Stern, has a thoroughly Mediterranean feel, with antique terracotta roof tiles, cute courtyards and earthy-hued interiors setting the tone

Other amenities set to attract deep pocketed buyers will include a library, a movie theater, a wine room, a gym with sauna, a massage room, a hair salon, multiple pools, a floodlit tennis court and a five-car garage.

4. Palatial living in La-La Land! 594 S Mapleton Dr, Los Angeles: $155 MILLION

According to the listing agent, Steven Shane of Compass, if it sells it will set a new record for properties in the affluent area.

The three-story home at 730 S Galena Street hit the market in June but as of yet, no buyers have come forward. Its current owner is Detroit-based philanthropist and manufacturing entrepreneur Joel Tauber, who purchased it in 1996 for just over $9 million.

Photos of the 14,000-square-foot pad reveal its glossy interiors, which merge traditional ski and contemporary design. 10. A PAD TO PARK YOURSELF AT! 50 Central Park S #30/31, New York: $90 MILLION
