'PS I Love You' author announces book sequel: 'I've been bursting to share it'

“P.S. I Love You” fans, rejoice! There’s a book sequel coming.

Cecelia Ahern, the Irish author of the best-selling 2004 novel that was later adapted into a box office sensation, announced the exciting news in several social posts.

“I have news! BIG NEWS!” she wrote in a post. “I’ve done it. I’ve written the sequel to PS I LOVE YOU and it’s titled POSTSCRIPT. It’s the P.S to my P.S of 15 years ago and writing it has been an emotional experience.”

“I don’t know how I’ve succeeded in keeping this a secret for so long but I’ve been bursting to share it,” she continued.

Ahern revealed that the novel will be published by HarperCollins on Sept. 19 in Ireland and the UK. It will also be published by Grand Central Publishing in the U.S., although an official date hasn’t been announced yet.

“I hope you’ll welcome back Holly…and Gerry…and ugly cry through the story as much as I did,” she wrote.

She also shared a video announcing the exciting news.

“Postscript” will follow Holly Kennedy once again, picking up years after she lost her husband, Gerry, and found his set of letters that brought her on a journey of discovery and love.

Ahern provided a complete description of “Postscript” on her website:

“When Holly Kennedy is approached by a group calling themselves the PS, I Love You Club, her safe existence is turned on its head. Inspired by hearing about her late husband Gerry’s letters, the club wants Holly to help them with their own parting messages for their loved ones to discover after they’re gone. Holly is sure of one thing — no way is she being dragged back to the grief she has left behind. It’s taken seven years to reinvent herself, and she’s ready to move on with her life. But Holly comes to realize that when you love someone, there’s always one more thing to say.”

She also described the novel as a “deeply emotional project,” in a statement on her website.

“Postscript is the PS to my PS and while it is a sequel, it is also a story that stands alone about living a purposeful life in the face of illness, grief and loss. I hope that new readers and PS, I Love You fans alike will embrace Holly’s new journey.”

“PS, I love you” was adapted into a tremendously successful box office hit starring Gerard Butler and Hilary Swank, which was released in 2007. The film made almost $157 million worldwide.

Here’s to hoping this upcoming novel is adapted into a sequel to the heartbreaking film!
