Princess Anne is often considered the hardest working royal and will appear stoic and professional when carrying out official duties. When she is with her grandchildren, however, a body language expert claimed she has shown her “real self”.

Princess Anne has four grandchildren, Savannah Phillips, 10, Isla Phillips, eight, Mia Grace Tindall, seven, and Lena Elizabeth Tindall, two.

She is about to become a grandmother for the fifth time as Zara and Mike Tindall have announced they are expecting their third child.

Princess Anne has been a working royal since she was just 18-years-old and is very professional during official engagements.

When off the clock, the royal has often been seen with her grandchildren as they live nearby.

The Princess Royal resides near the Tindall family at Gatcombe Park in Gloucestershire, England. Zara and her family also live in the 700 acre estate.

Analysing pictures for Express.co.uk, body language expert Judi James claimed Princess Anne is not often publicly affectionate.

She stated: “Princess Anne has never been a lover of the PDA, posing in a more traditional, hands-off way with two husbands and her own children.

“But the way that daughter Zara has emerged as a wonderfully tactile and openly affectionate woman suggests there might have been a very different version of her mother away from the cameras.”

While Princess Anne seems to favour being “hands-off” with others while in public, the expert suggested this is different when with her grandchildren.

The senior royal could show more emotion when with Zara’s children.

In fact, Princess Anne could show a rare glimpse of who she is away from her royal duties when with her grandchildren, Judi claimed.

She said: “With her grandchildren we do finally get to see the more demonstrative side to the Princess.

“With both Zara’s daughters having clearly inherited the tendency to look like free spirits with a huge enjoyment of life, the filter is off in terms of the way that Anne behaves towards them in public.

“It can be a joy to watch, as it does allow us a peek of the real Anne.

“Playful and doting, Anne blends the usual watchful eye of any grandmother with a tendency to join in games with an enthusiasm that makes her look like a child herself.”

The expert suggested she is a doting grandmother happy to join in and play with her young grandchildren.

The Queen’s daughter could become more “tactile” and affectionate when in the role of grandmother.

Commenting on one picture, Judi added: “Anne has actually made herself lower than her granddaughter here to show full, undivided and very doting attention.

“The kiss is wonderfully revealing of Anne’s tactile, loving side.

“The way both she and her granddaughter perform it suggests it’s a regular feature of their relationship.”
