Singer Paloma Faith has recently shared a snap of herself with cabbage leaves in her bra, in a bid to combat her breast engorgement following giving birth to her second child.

According to the NHS, breast engorgement is "when your breasts get too full of milk and can happen in the early days when you and your baby are still getting used to breastfeeding."

They continue: "It can take a few days for your milk supply to match your baby's needs."

Paloma described the condition on Instagram as "next level pain", but why has she used cabbage leaves?

Well Jane Mason, founder of award-winning pregnancy-to-birth products brand Natural Birthing Company, has revealed why cabbage leaves can actually help.

She said: "Breast engorgement is when breasts are painful overfull of milk and it usually occurs when a mother makes more milk that her baby uses.

"It's also very common for women during their first few days and weeks of breastfeeding.

"Using cabbage leaves as a remedy for this can help as cabbage leaves work by drawing out excess fluid."

Jane also says that "peppermint oil can also help to relieve pain and reduce the swelling of sore and engorged breasts, as well as symptoms of mastitis."

"Day 3 and my milk has come in….. I’ve been diagnosed with acute engorgement.

"This means I have too much milk and the baby isn’t big or strong enough to drain it and get it out. It’s painful.

"The boobs are rock hard. I’m trying massage while feeding, it hurts so much like a deep tissue massage and not much is helping.
