'NCIS' Season 16 Finale: What 'Daughters' Means For Bishop And Torres Shippers

The Season 16 finale of NCIS is only a week away and we already have a good idea what’s to come for our favorite characters. The season finale will focus mainly on Gibbs (Mark Harmon) as he deals with some personal issues related to a drug case.

With the storyline focusing on Gibbs, there is little room to resolve some of the other story arcs this season, which does not bode well for Bishop (Emily Wickersham) and Torres (Wilmer Valderrama) shippers.

Some fans have been shipping Bishop and Torres for the past few seasons, though it does not look as though anything will happen between them by the time Season 16 wraps. That said, there is a possibility that the show drops a few nuggets about their potential romance, which could definitely make things interesting heading into Season 17.

‘NCIS’ focuses on Gibbs in Season 16 finale

The finale for Season 16 of NCIS will feature Tobias Fornell (Joe Spano) making an appearance. Although he is retired from the FBI, Fornell is looking to take down some local drug dealers after his daughter, Emily (Juliette Angelo), overdosed and was sent to the hospital.

According to CarterMatt, Fornell asks Gibbs to help him fight the drug dealers, whichbrings up some of his past issues. As fans will recall, Gibbs’ first wife anddaughter were killed by a drug lord. Gibbs will obvious struggle with thedecision to help Fornell, especially in light of his recent struggles.

Over the past few episodes, Gibbs has undergone quite the emotional journey. After revealing that he killed the drug dealer responsible for the death of his family, Gibbs experienced a sort of mental break that inhibited his job performance. Gibbs also burnt one of his rules earlier this season in the same episode that we learned Ziva (Cote de Pablo) is still alive.

The rule prohibited getting involved in a case when there werepersonal issues at stake. If Gibbs agrees to help Fornell, he will obviouslyhave a personal investment in the cast, and it will be interesting to see howthe rest of the team reacts.

‘NCIS’ teases more Ziva

Aside from Gibbs, fans are expecting to hear some new developments on the Ziva front. The series has teased Ziva’s return all season long, though it seems unlikely that Pablo will be back in action for the finale. There is simply not enough room in the final episode, titled “Daughters,” for Ziva to have a major impact.

While Ziva might not be back in the flesh, there are plenty ofways the show might mention her in the finale. This includes setting the stagefor a larger story arc in Season 17.

We first learned about Ziva’s state earlier this season after Bishop discovered her secret office. Bishop is the only person that knows about Ziva, but that could change in the finale. It is possible that we finally learn whether or not Gibbs knows about Ziva, which could have a significant impact on her story moving forward.

Whatever happens, producers have already confirmed that they havelarger plans for Ziva, so we should learn something about her future in thecoming installment. That said, it would be pretty amazing if Ziva made anappearance, though at this point, it seems unlikely.

What will happen with Torres and Bishop?

There is no telling what producers have planned for Torres and Bishop. NCIS fans have been shipping them for the past few seasons, but they have not made any significant strides towards a lasting romance. That could change in the Season 16 finale, though that largely depends on what producers have planned for the characters moving forward.

Unfortunately, with the focus being entirely on Gibbs, there isnot going to be a lot of time in the episode to devote to other storylines, including Bishop and Torres. That does not mean we will not learn anything onthat front, but it seems unlikely.

New episodes of NCIS air Tuesday nights on CBS.
