My son has moved to the USA to be with a woman and is refusing to come to the UK to be with his kids this Christmas

He’s 28 and has three children by three different women. I’m 49 and my husband is 48. We always had contact with his children when he saw them, but then he started neglecting them and not bothering to see them.

He met this woman online and decided to take a career break to go and see her. The first we knew of it was through talking to his work manager. He won’t tell us her address.

I’m ashamed and disgusted at his behaviour. I hoped he’d come home to see us and his children at Christmas but he says he’s staying there. He claims he won’t play his exes’ mind games but I think he just can’t be bothered with his children.

His son’s mother has now stopped us seeing our grandson and I’m heartbroken

DEIDRE SAYS:  Your son is an adult and you can’t make him do the right thing, but you can ask him to keep in touch with his children by phone and text.

This is all the more reason for you to contact your grandchildren.

Contact their mums, say you can make no excuse for your son’s behaviour but their children can only benefit from having loving grandparents interested in them.
