‘My girlfriend thinks my tattoo is of her – but actually I’m a huge NFL fan’

A man is struggling to come clean to his girlfriend about the true meaning of his tattoo.

He said his partner has always really been into body art and always encouraged him to get one.

But the man told his girlfriend he would only get one that would be "truly meaningful" to him.

Now as the guy is a huge American football follower, he has always been a fan of Tom Brady.

The NFL legend scooped his seventh Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Succaneers last weekend.

He also spent the first 20 seasons of his stellar career with the New England Patriots.

So the man thought he finally had something worthy of getting inked…

In honour of the quarterback, he had the number 12 tattooed on his arm and coloured in blue.

When he got home, he immediately went to show his girlfriend the tattoo, telling her he found something meaningful.

But it didn't exactly go to plan, in fact, his girlfriend began to weep at his new ink.

He wrote: "I unwrapped it and when she saw the big blue 12 on my arm she began to cry about how getting a tattoo of the year we started dating is so beautiful and romantic."

And things started to go from bad to worse when he lied to her at every opportunity he had to correct the assumption.

He added: "The entire time getting the tattoo it didn't even occur to me that 2012 was the year we started dating or that she would even make that connection.

"She was critical of the font but was moved by the sentiment, and when she asked me what the colour blue symbolised I told her it was her blue eyes even though it was Patriots colours."

Now he feels like he's in too deep to come clean to his girlfriend, but he had already told his brothers and friends the truth.

He continued: "I'm worried because the implication is that Tom Brady is more important to me than she is, which isn't true. He's just been a part of my life longer.

"Either way I feel like she's going to be upset. Do I tell her the truth? Keep it a secret? I feel like having to lie about the tattoo to people every time I'm asked about it for the rest of my life would tear me apart."

When he shared his dilemma on Reddit, many people told him to tell the truth before it gets any worse.

One wrote: "Aw dude, you f***ed up. You lied to her? That sucks, man. You have to be aware of the fact that you dug yourself into this hole. Tell the truth, deal with the consequences."

Another added: "I have no advice but I laughed very hard at the predicament you have now gotten yourself into."

A third commented: "You tell your friends and family that you were joking before and you got the tattoo for your girlfriend.

"Then you take it to your grave. Brady's number? What a weird coincidence."

So what should he do? Let us know in the comments below…
