Mum’s message from hospital bed one year after 4 children killed in arson attack
The mum of four children who were murdered when their home was firebombed has recorded a touching video message from her hospital bed.
The footage was played at a vigil marking a year since their deaths in Walkden, Greater Manchester.
The sickening arson attack claimed the lives of Demi, 15, her brother Brandon, eight, and younger sisters Lacie, seven, and Lia, three, as they slept on December 11 last year.
Michelle Pearson, who was put in an induced coma following the fire, thanked rescuers who fought to save her three daughters and son, the Manchester Evening News reports.
She also praised members of the community for their incredible support following the tragedy.
Her loved ones have not released images of her since the blaze, but Ms Pearson recorded the video for use at an anniversary vigil tonight.
For many attending the vigil for the four ‘angels’, it was the first time they had seen Ms Pearson since the fire.
The video left those gathered at Jackson Street, where the children lost their lives, in tears.
Ms Pearson said: "First of all, I’d like to thank all the firefighters for what they have done.
"Second, I would like to thank the community for all their generous donations. And last I would like to thank everybody for coming tonight."
A caption read: "Thank you everybody for coming. Lots of Love, Michelle and the four angels."
Sandra Lever, Ms Pearson’s mother, invited members of the community to gather to celebrate the youngster’s lives on Tuesday evening.
More than 100 people attended and were left in tears as a presentation – showing images and video of the family in happier times – was played.
A memorial attached to the window of the house read: “Your lives were a blessing. Your memories are a treasure. You are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.”
Candles were lit and messages tied to the front door of the house. Dozens of people left flowers.
Zak Bolland was found guilty of murdering the four children and of the attempted murders of others inside the house.
David Worrall was found guilty of the four murders of the children and of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent against the three survivors.
He was cleared of attempting to murder them.
Courtney Brierley, Bolland’s then partner, was found not guilty of the murders, but found guilty of the alternative of manslaughter in each case.
She was cleared of three counts of attempted murder.
