Maskim Chmerkovskiy took to social media to share more updates from Ukraine as Russia continues to invade his native country.
The former “Dancing With the Stars” pro, 42 — who became a U.S. citizen in 2019 — said in Friday Instagram video posts that citizens are “being mobilized” and “the whole country is being called to go to war.”
“Men, women, boys… are going forward and getting guns and getting deployed to defend the country,” he added.
His comments came after Reuters reported that men of “fighting age” were asked to stay put as Russian missile attacks ravaged the country. Meanwhile, thousands of Ukrainians, mostly women and children, crossed into Poland, Romania, Hungary and Slovakia.
Chmerkovskiy is currently in the nation’s capital of Kyiv while wife Peta Murgatroyd remains in California with the couple’s 5-year-old son, Shai.
The ballroom pro shared that he has no plans to leave at the moment, as he feels borders are “not safe.” Later, Chmerkovskiy told his followers that he was making his way to a bomb shelter before sharing video footage of explosions tearing through the city.
“I’m out here, again, I’m safe. We haven’t been told to move, and I’m just following instructions,” he said. “That’s all I can say.”
The dancer said that the people of Ukraine are “very aggressively charged” as Russian President Vladimir Putin attempts to seize control of the country.
“If it’s not resolved in a peaceful manner in some way or form in the next day or so, or two, I think it’s gonna take a turn for very, very much more aggressive actions and a lot more casualties,” he said.
“There are kids that are getting sick, people are sheltering and people that aren’t able to just get up and run, right: small children, elderly people. This is like it is in every conflict, I’m just drawing attention to the fact that this is what’s happening.”
On Thursday, Murgatroyd, 35 — who wed Chmerkovskiy in 2017 — made an emotional plea for fans to pray for her spouse’s safe return to America.
“Please pray for my husband Maks,” she wrote in a lengthy post on Instagram Thursday. “I don’t usually ask these things from my social media network, however today is extremely hard and the next few will be even harder.”
Murgatroyd continued, “My pain is overwhelming and I’m struggling, but you sending your positive light and love to him would mean the world to me. Truly, I wish for nothing more.”
The New Zealand native also asked for prayers for the “innocent civilians” of Ukraine who are experiencing an “unfathomable situation.”
Chmerkovskiy previously shared that he will “never be the same” after Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine.
“This is stressful and I’m getting old feelings back, like I’ve done this before,” he wrote in a Thursday Instagram post. “This does feel like the way it was when and why we left in the 90s. Like my old PTSD I’ve finally fixed is coming back.”
