KFC release a doughnut and fried chicken sandwich

Doughnuts are delicious, fried chicken is fantastic, but does that mean we should enjoy both of them at the same time, in the same bite? Surely one is a main course, the other a dessert? Well KFC don’t seem to think so.

They have combined both the savoury and sweet treats for their latest ‘sandwich’. Yes, the American fast-food chain is trialling the new dish made up of a crispy chicken fillet, seasoned with a secret blend of herbs and spices, which is then sandwiched between two sugar glazed doughnuts.

This stand-out sarnie is currently only available in a select few branches of KFC in the United States, but if it goes well then the offering will be rolled out nationwide. Then perhaps, one day, it will travel across the pond and be on sale in the U.K too.

Because the recipe is still being finalised, KFC have refrained from releasing any nutritional information, although it is safe to say engulfing this sandwich probably shouldn't be part of you daily routine.

The chicken and doughnut sandwich is currently on sale for $7.50 (£6.01), but if you find it hard to sink your teeth into you can have the basket option instead. This consists of chicken on the bone or tenders with one doughnut and costs $5.50 (£4.41). You are also able to add an additional doughnut to any of your orders for the bargain price of $1 (£80).

Although this doughnut burger is not coming to Britain just yet, the fried chicken chain has not left us out. This year they have been shaking things up with the addition of some new dishes on the menu.

In June, KFC did a four-week trial for the vegan Imposter Burger and it sold out after just four days. The burger, which includes bespoke Quorn fillet and vegan mayonnaise, is now regular fixture in selected stores. And earlier this month, they brought back their inferno bites in three flavours – Piri piri, Fiery Buffalo and Sweet Chilli. The fieriest of the three is the Piri Piri Inferno, which definitely isn’t for the faint hearted.

The Fiery Buffalo is a good middle ground for those that don’t want to sweat buckets, and then Sweet Chilli is for those who want to chicken out on the spice. You can buy four bites cost £1.99 but they are limited edition so if you do want to try them, there is only a few weeks left.
