Jerry O’Connell clearly wants to take over Kathie Lee Gifford’s ‘Today’ job

The hunt is on to replace Kathie Lee Gifford on the “Today” show’s fourth hour, and Jerry O’Connell seems eager to throw his hat into the ring.

O’Connell, who has periodically guest hosted and visited Gifford and co-host Hoda Kotb on the “Today” show, told E! News that, while he hasn’t heard anything about his chances at the job, he’d happily take over when Gifford leaves in April.

“Officially, I have not heard anything,” he said. “I love that format. I love Hoda. Hoda is an infectious, beautiful soul. It’s such an exciting time in her life. It would be an honor for anyone who gets to be there with her.”

In addition to his “Today” appearances, O’Connell also sharpened his hosting chops filling in for Wendy Williams for five episodes of her show earlier this year.

When asked by E! if he would be interested in being Kotb’s co-host, he reiterated: “To work with Hoda? Of course! Anybody would be. It would be an honor. Yes, of course.”

He then clarified, he hasn’t been asked as of yet. “Is it happening? No,” he told the outlet.
