Is Prince William Trying to 'Outdo' Prince Harry and Meghan Markle With This Move?

Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex officially stepped down from royal duties in March. But even before then there were signs of cracks in Harry’s relationship with his older brother, Prince William.

The younger prince addressed the rift between them during the 2019 documentary Harry & Meghan: An African Journey.

“Inevitably stuff happens. But we’re brothers, we’ll always be brothers. We’re certainly on different paths at the moment,” Harry said, adding, “I’ll always be there for him and as I know, he’ll always be there for me. The majority of stuff is created out of nothing. As brothers, we have good days and we have bad days.”

Several reports have claimed that their feud started because William questioned Harry’s choice to marry Meghan and never fully welcomed her into the royal fold.

The Sussexes eventually traded in the royal spotlight for Tinseltown and back in the U.K., some believe that William is determined not to let Harry and Meghan outshine the monarchy.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry need to find careers outside royal life

“After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution. We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen. It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that we feel prepared to make this adjustment. We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honour our duty to The Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages. This geographic balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity. We look forward to sharing the full details of this exciting next step in due course, as we continue to collaborate with Her Majesty The Queen, The Prince of Wales, The Duke of Cambridge and all relevant parties. Until then, please accept our deepest thanks for your continued support.” – The Duke and Duchess of Sussex For more information, please visit sussexroyal.com (link in bio) Image © PA

When Prince Harry and former Suits star announced their bombshell decision to leave royal life behind, they said that they would “work to become financially independent.” But for the most part, they have laid low since arriving in Los Angeles.

“They do need to make money,” royal expert Katie Nicholl told Entertainment Tonight. “They’ve been in LA since March, they left the royal family at the end of March, and as yet, they haven’t actually earned anything.”

In June, Page Six reported that the pair may have just found a way to do that as they signed with a top-notch speaking agency that earns its high-profile clients $1 million per speech.

Prince William is doing more of those since Harry and Meghan’s exit

Not to be outdone, speeches are something Prince William has been doing more frequently since the Duke and Duchess of Sussex left The Firm.

Body language expert Judi James spoke to The Express about the Duke of Cambridge’s increase in speaking engagements and how he has refined his delivery following Megxit.

“Prince William’s skills at speech-making did start early,” she said. “Suited and booted, he made one of his first speeches to a celebrity audience at the age of 10, when his mother, Diana, lovingly but firmly introduced him as ‘the man of the family’ before pushing him forward to stand on a box and welcome guests to her Xmas party.”

James added that “Despite the years spent honing his skills though, it’s only recently that William has begun to develop signs of genuine stage-craft, speaking with a new edge at a time that coincides perfectly with his brother Harry’s launch on the celebrity circuit. William’s recent BAFTA speech was a revelation though, suggesting he had been working on his delivery in a bid to keep up with or even outdo the Sussexes.”
