I can't wait to be a mum but my partner doesn't seem excited anymore

DEAR DEIDRE: I CAN’T wait for our baby to arrive but my partner isn’t so excited about being a dad.

We found out I was pregnant just before he went to Australia to see family.

We are both 22. He got stuck there for lockdown. It was a big shock but has not affected me as much as him.

I know he has missed months of my pregnancy and getting used to the idea but he never says he misses me any more.

He is due back soon but I am scared he will say he isn’t ready for a baby and will leave us.

Maybe it’s just my hormones making me emotional but I love him and I don’t know what to do.

DEIDRE SAYS: Your body has been changing over these past months and the hormones have helped you feel ready to become a mother.

He flew away from the girl he loved but is coming back to two people. He might well have a raft of emotions, even jealousy.

Focus on talking about you and him and your relationship rather than about the baby. Men’s positive emotions about being a dad more often kick in once the baby arrives.
