Glossybox review – how good are their makeup and skincare products?

IS there a better feeling than when a package arrives for you in the post? Everyone loves a pick-me-up, and a Glossybox subscription could mean that you have one in the form of make-up and skincare every month.

Sending you five products for a £10 monthly fee (plus £3.25 postage), Glossybox UK promises to surprise you with different, perfectly-wrapped goodies each month, by both well-known and emerging brands from Huda Beauty to Bubble T Cosmetics. We tried it out to see if it's worth subscribing.

How does Glossybox work?

So, a subscription costs £10 a month plus £3.25 delivery, which covers a monthly surprise gift of five beauty products: think fun sheet masks, moisturisers, serums, fruity lip balms and little make-up must-haves.

The Glossybox team say that they work together each month to discover new brands, giving you advice on the "tips, tricks and trends" of the beauty world – the website is always full of influencer-led videos and articles on how to use your products following each box.

There is also a list of the products online with their original prices – the February box that we trialed apparently sums up to £97.99! For the £13.25 monthly fee, subscribers saved a lot of money.

You can opt out at any time without having to commit to more than one month, which is a lot more flexible than some of the other beauty boxes on the market.

Is Glossybox worth it?

We had a buzz of excitement when our February Glossybox came through the post as it arrived in their signature polkadot crown packaging, here to inject some joy into our boring days of lockdown.

When we opened it up, the 'Sing Dance Love Repeat' pink stereo box was sweet but it made us immediately see Glossybox as a beauty box for younger people, probably ages 14 to 21, tops.

The inside was packaged just as well with stereo-doodled paper and shredded blue paper: we recieved an Avant lip scrub, Bubble T hand cream, a Steve Laurant lip mask, NudeStix lip and cheek colour, and a Glow On Rose Gua Shua tool.

Lip products could not have been more welcomed in February as our lips are fighting icy cold gusts on the daily, so we were so quick to use the lip scrub and mask. Our verdict? The juicy red lip mask definitely felt sooo soothing though we're not sure how effective it actually was.

The scrub, however, was simple to apply and definitely smoothed any cracks – unsurprising as it's supposedly worth a whopping £58.

The most generous product for February was the Bubble T Peach Bellini hand cream, which smelled sickly sweet but worked well for our over-sanitised hands and comes in a 90ml tube (much bigger than usual hand creams).

We have used rose quartz and jade guy sha's in the past which are better than the plastic one that Glossybox offered, although it did do the job and is a cool tool for young people wanting to be introduced to staple skincare secrets.

It was great to be introduced to cruelty-free brand NudeStix too with one of their lip and cheek-pencils, even if we're not one to wear red lipstick. Each to their own though.

As a 25 year old who has fallen in love with more high-end boxes in the past, we weren't blown away by Glossybox but would definitely recommend it to our 18 and 20 year old cousins as a monthly inexpensive treat that definitely spreads some happiness with interesting products.

Is Glossybox or Birchbox better?

Looking for something that'll cheer up your month? Choose Glossybox. Looking to try high-end products before you buy them? Birchbox is your guy.

We have actually trialed Birchbox too, and found that the offering of products was, like Glossybox, really wide-ranging, from face masks to scalp cleanser and primer, yet it was a bit more mature in its selection.

Both boxes have variety, but it just depends on what you're after. If you're a skin-care obsessive who's looking for your new favourites then you might prefer Birchbox. However, Glossybox gives you actual full sized products which means that you're physically getting more for your money (there's only £1 difference between the two).

There's more of a mixture of high and lower-end products in Glossybox too, which is great for those of us who want to know about affordable brands too.

What day does Glossybox arrive?

Glossybox dispatch their boxes on the 5th of each month, and then it can take up to a week for them to leave the warehouse and arrive to you. You'll receive a dispatch email over a couple of days from the 5th though.

If you have a monthly subscription, then of course they will arrive every month. You can even bag yourself a year subscription for just £11.75 a month, instead of £13.25 (including delivery).

What is Glossybox

Glossybox is a beauty subscription service that you can have delivered to your home every month at a £10 monthly fee.

Whether you feel like you could do with the pick-me-up every month or like being introduced to new beauty products, it's a real treat every time it comes through the post.

In short, it's a box full of joy in the form of five beauty products.

How to cancel Glossybox

You have to cancel your Glossybox subscription before the 14th in order for it to be immediately effective, otherwise you'll still receive that month's box and your cancellation will take place for the next month.

In addition to that, you can't cancel a three, six or 12 month subscription early.

When you do want to cancel, you can talk to one of the customer care team via the live chat on the site, or click on the account tab and then the 'subscriptions' section.

How much is Glossybox

Glossybox costs £13.25 per month as it is £10 plus £3.25 delivery.

However, you can opt for a 12 month subscription which is just £11.75 a month, saving you £18 a year.

When does Glossybox charge

Pay monthly subscriptions are taken from your account the moment that you sign up.

Following that, payments are taken around the 1st of every month.
