Get your garden ready for the winter months with Mr Money's top gadgets

WINTER is coming so it is time to get the garden ready – and make the most of what is left of autumn.

Here, we round up some innovative gadgets to help you out . . .

CAMERA AND LIGHT

  • Arlo security camera and light, £259.99, John Lewis

A top-end security camera and light in one. See what you are doing when you get home or stay illuminated as you enjoy a late glass of wine on the patio.

Plus keep tabs on your property when you are out – and see the silly place the delivery driver has left your package.

CLEAR THE LEAVES

  • Bosch universal garden tidy, £99, Homebase

Your lawn, flower beds, drives and paths will soon be covered in leaves. Get rid of them without breaking your back hunched over a rake.

This can blow leaves to borders, vacuum them up or shred them. Mains rather than battery powered.

STORE IT

  • Forest Garden 6ftx4ft reverse apex wooden shed, £232, B&Q

Get all your summer gear – like hoses, smaller bits of furniture and solar lights tidied away before winter takes hold and damages them.

Pre-treated. Forest are the UK’s biggest shed maker and they sell at a range of retailers – and you can pay extra to have it built.

LET THERE BE LIGHT

  • Philips Hue outdoor lighting, from £64.99, meethue.com

Hue lights are “smart” ones that you control – turning on and off or changing colours – via your phone, a timer or sensors. Or even with Alexa.

There are floodlights to light up your driveway or patio ones to show off your plants. You do need a Hue hub, around £59.99.

PERK UP THE PAVING

  • Ryobi cordless patio cleaner with wire brush, £111.95, eBay

Cleaning the moss and weeds from block paving with a normal brush is back-breaking and takes forever. This does all the hard work for you.

As with the Ryobi scarifier, the battery and charger cost extra but can be used across all their range of gadgets.

TIDY THE YARD

  • Keter Hollywood storage box, £19.99, Wickes

Wood-effect plastic that looks good but is practical. Store your garden gadgets, from the leaf blower to furniture cushions.

Smaller versions can take a seat on them too.

STAY TOASTY

  • RedFire fireplace, £88.95, ManoMano

Stay warm on chilly evenings with a real fire outside. It’s also another way to get rid of some of the branches you’ve cut.

Chimineas like this really throw out some heat so you can even use it to relax in the garden in winter.

CLEAN THE GUTTER

  • Wolf-Garten two-in-one gutter cleaner, £44.99, local garden centres

Forget the ladder – this quirky gadget has a four metre-long handle to clear gutters with a leaf scoop and brush.

Saves you money on damage.

LOSE THE BRANCHES

  • Einhell electric garden shredder 230V, £99.98, toolstation.com

After trimming twigs and branches from trees and shrubs, it’s a pain to get rid of them.

This will cut anything up to 4cm/1.5in chunks thanks to sharp, mains-powered blades – and turn it into mulch for borders. It also saves damaging the inside of the car on a trip to the tip.

CLEAN THE SHED, CAR AND PATIO

  • Karcher WD 1 outdoor multi-purpose vacuum cleaner, was £199, now £149.98, from Amazon

Ideal for cars, garages, gardens and other tasks too tough for an indoor vac, such as broken glass on a patio.

You can switch between wet and dry pick-up without changing the filter. Makes light work of removing dust, sand, mud and gravel. Comes with battery and charger.

LOVE THE LAWN

  • Ryobi cordless scarifier, was £219.99, now £193.74, Amazon

Clearing out the moss and dead grass from a lawn is hard work with a rake. The blades on this thin out grass and aerate the soil. Do it in a tenth of the time and see your lawn improve.

Plus Ryobi’s garden gear and DIY tools can share batteries – sold separately – saving you space as well as charging time.

TRIM THE TREES – CHAINSAW

  • Einhell petrol chainsaw was £109.48, now £82.11, toolstation.com

Don’t mess around with a handheld saw – your arm will be aching in minutes. Chainsaws no longer cost the earth.

Get all those big branches cut in no time but stay safe. This is a bargain.
