‘Fortnite’ fans fired up over removal of favorite gameplay gun

This virtual gun has been shot down.

In an update to the hugely popular video game “Fortnite”, software company Epic Games has taken three weapons out of gameplay — including a fan favorite, the combat shotgun. And gamers are devastated.

“Holy mother of god the end is nigh,” tweets one fan in all caps of the game’s shotgun.

“Wtf? Bruh why did you vault the combat?” comments a “Fortnite” fan account.

The gun was considered to be among the game’s most powerful close-range weapons, but some players feel it was too efficient and diminished gameplay, or a player’s tactical skill.

“Why you crying I hated that gun way too overpowered,” writes one critic on Twitter.

Also nixed in the code update were the game’s drum shotgun and proximity launcher. The changes, which are effective immediately, do not appear to be politically motivated — though they come on the heels of Walmart and Kroger asking shoppers to stop openly carrying guns in stores.

Game updates are frequent, sometimes happening multiple times a month — this one just happens to have struck a chord with gamers.

“Fortnite” was released in 2017 and has since become a hot bed of controversy. It’s been accused of destroying marriages, being addictive to children and stealing dance moves. The game has also inspired exercise classes for kids and has raked in billions in profits for its creators.

Epic Games has not returned a request for comment.
