Fans Are Seriously Mad About the Duggar Family’s Recent Vacation — Here’s Why

Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar have always done their best to give their children educational vacations. Rather than go away for a week to a Caribbean island, the Duggars often take their children to learn more about the Lord in one way or another. This week, Michelle and Jim Bob brought their children down to Washington, D.C. to meet with a few important people. But here’s why fans didn’t like it.

Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar raise their children very religiously

The Duggar family is far from the average American family. Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar have 19 children, making them one of the largest families in the United States. Plus, they’re very religious, and the couple has raised their children with some extremely strict rules that not all parents choose to follow. The Duggars aren’t allowed to engaged in any intimate activity until they’re married; they’re only allowed to give side hugs. And growing up, the girls always wore long, over-the-knee skirts —  they were never allowed to wear shorts or even pants (although the older daughters have since broken that rule).

The family doesn’t believe in birth control or abortion

One other part of growing up in a very religious family is that the idea of birth control and abortion is highly frowned upon. Michelle was actually on birth control at one point, but she got pregnant and lost the baby. Since then, she’s realized that children are a gift and nothing should ever be done to prevent a pregnancy. She and Jim Bob raised their children to believe that birth control is wrong, and abortion is even more wrong. The family believes that once a baby is conceived, the fetus is considered a human being with rights and should never be aborted.

When the Duggars took a trip to Washington, D.C., social media attacked the family for their anti-abortion views

The Duggar family recently posted a photo to Instagram from a trip they took to Washington, D.C. The family met with people in Congress who agree with their views about abortion. Part of the Instagram photo caption read, “We appreciate all those that serve trying to make a difference in our great country and those working hard to protect the unborn!” But fans did not react well to the caption.

We are having a great time in DC visiting our Senators and Members of Congress with a ministry called Capitol Connections. We appreciate all those that serve trying to make a difference in our great county and those working hard to protect the unborn!

“What if you cared enough to protect the living first,” one user wrote. Another wrote, “Did the thrice-married president sign your bible?” The family received a lot of heat in the comments about their dislike over abortion. “Why don’t you focus your energy on those who are here in foster care homes instead,” another comment read.

While the Duggars are generally well-liked, social issues tend to be a point of contention

The Duggar family has plenty of fans, but when it comes to
social issues, they don’t win everybody over. Although the Instagram photo
relating to abortion received more than 44,000 likes, there was plenty of shade
thrown in the comments about the various arguments pertaining to abortion. And
this has always been the case for the Duggars; fans love to watch the care and
compassion this family has for one another, but they don’t tend to react well
to their staunch religious and political views.
