Derek Jeter had plan to marry Mariah Carey before he met her

Derek Jeter was only the second person that Mariah Carey slept ever with.

The “Fantasy” singer reveals that nugget in her just-released memoir “The Meaning of Mariah Carey,” adding that the first time they slept together at his house in Tampa, his sister Sharlee was also there so, “basically it was an eighth-grade event.”

The Yankees shortstop, 46, had a longtime crush on Carey, 50, hanging her posters in his bedroom as a teen and even had a game plan to marry her.

“‘I had this plan,’ he told me. ‘I was going to come to New York. I was going to get on the Yankees. I was going to meet you, and I was going to steal you away from Tony Sony – his name for Tommy (Mottola, Carey’s first husband) – ‘and then we were going to get married.’”

The couple dated from 1997 to 1998, yet it was an enormously important relationship for Carey who was coming off an allegedly emotionally abusive and controlling marriage to music exec Mottola.

“It was so sensual,” Carey writes of their time together. “Everything was so new and sweet, down to the smooth texture of his honey-dropped skin … It was so heady, so intoxicating, and I was so vulnerable. I was in touch with a fire I didn’t know I had inside.”

Carey calls her time with Jeter “a short and sweet dream.”

Jeter, who went on to date Minka Kelly, Adriana Lima and Jessica Alba, is now married to model Hannah Davis with whom has two daughters. Carey was married to Nick Cannon from 2008 to 2016. They are parents to 9-year-old twins, Moroccan and Monroe.
