Cheap Champagne, Prosecco and Cava deals for Christmas 2018

We have looked at prices of Cava, Prosecco and Champagne (branded and non-branded) in all the major supermarkets in the UK to find out where you’ll get the most bubbly for your pounds – and the results aren’t actually that surprising.

Of all the bottles currently on sale in Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, Asda, Marks & Spencer, Morrisons, Co-op, Ocado as well as Lidl and Aldi, the two latter supermarkets frequently came out on top as offering the best value.

Of course, our price data doesn’t take into account the quality or taste of the alcohol so that may be reflected in the price.

It's also worth keeping in mind that prices could change rapidly in the run-up to Christmas – so the best offer today might be different by tomorrow.

Here are the best deals on bubbly currently around:

The best value branded Champagne – Aldi’s Veuve Monsigny Champagne Brut and Lidl’s Comte de Senneval Champagne Brut for £11.49

The cheapest Champagne bottles on the UK market are currently these two award-winning bottles from Aldi and Lidl.

The Veuve Monsigny Champagne Brut has aromas of ripe apples, floral hints and soft red fruit, and is best served as an aperitif or with light food, according to Aldi.

Lidl’s Comte de Senneval Champagne Brut is packed with citrus and biscuit flavours, and it matches perfectly with potato pancakes and smoked salmon, says Lidl.

The best value branded Champagnes

Lanson Black Label – For £20 at Morrisons

If you're looking for a more well-known brand, you can get a bottle of Lanson Black Label for £20 at Morrisons.

Meanwhile Tesco and Ocado have the Champagne on offer for a couple quid more at £22.

If you do miss the Christmas discounts, Asda offers the next best price on Lanson at £27 per bottle, according to mysupermarket.com.

Veuve Cliquot – For £30 at Waitrose

The leading champagne house of Veuve Clicquot sees a constant stream of fans coming back for its famous bubbly.

And you can now get a sweet 25 per cent discount at Waitrose, which is currently selling the bubbly for £30, down from £40.

A luxurious bottle of Moët & Chandon should impress any dinner guests, no matter what the occasion.

Your second best price of the bottle is offered by Asda – the supermarket is always selling the bottles for £29.

Taittinger Brut Reserve NV Champagne – £26.25 at Ocado

Taitttinger is one of the few Champagne houses still owned and managed by the family whose name appears on the label.

The luxurious bottles are currently sold for £26.25 at Ocado, down from its usual price of £35 – and this offer is also valid until January 1 2019.

Meanwhile, supermarkets such as Tesco and Waitrose also have the bottle on offer for £27 and £28 respectively until New Years Day.

You won't struggle to find affordable Cava with these two bottles from Aldi and Lidl that cost £4.99 per bottle.

This also has citrus flavours as well as hints of apple and almond, and is best served as an aperitif or with seafood.

The cheapest Prosecco – Lidl’s for £5.49

Prosecco is often regarded as a cheaper alternative to Champagne, and rightly so.

In fact, the fizz has become so popular lately that many Champagne makers have been forced to slash their prices.

According to our data, Lidl is currently offering the cheapest Prosecco bottles around at £5.49.

The supermarket’s Allini Prosecco Frizzante is aromatic, fizzy, off-dry and not too heavy, according to Lidl – but it works well for all types of occasions.

It’s worth noting that as Lidl doesn’t have an online shop, you’ll have to make a trip to your local store.

The next cheapest deal we found on Prosecco is the Bella Cucina Prosecco Fizzante Semi a Tesco currently selling for £5.75.

The best value sparkling wines

Clairette De Die Cuvée César – for £7.99 at Lidl

Lidl's new French fizz offers a fresh but slightly sweet taste for £7.99 a bottle.

You'll also be able to taste aromas of rose petal as well as flavours of baked apple.
