Sophie, Countess of Wessex has ‘extraordinary’ £250,000 necklace with nod to Prince Edward

Aquamarine Necklace Tiara: Expert on Sophie Wessex’s jewels

Sophie, Countess of Wessex and Prince Edward are both senior working royals. Like many in the Royal Family, Sophie has a large collection of stunning jewellery.

This includes a selection of jewellery with a close link to her husband Prince Edward.

Sophie will often wear the diamond engagement ring Prince Edward gave her in 1999.

On her wedding day, the royal wore a black and white pearl necklace and earrings set, which was a gift from the Queen’s son.

Like many royal brides, Sophie accessorised her wedding look with a tiara from the Queen’s collection, and she wore the Anthemion tiara.

Her jewellery collection is thought to be worth a huge sum of money, according to James Constantinou, founder of Prestige Pawnbrokers of Channel 4’s Posh Pawn.

He told Express.co.uk: “Sophie, the Countess of Wessex – married to Edward, Earl of Wessex – is a member of the Royal Family with a jewellery collection reportedly worth over £3million.”

Among her eye-catching collection of jewels is a more personal necklace which the royal has worn in recent years.

The silver pendant makes a nod to Prince Edward and their children Lady Louise Windsor, 17, and James, Viscount Severn, 12.

James added: “The Countess has worn this necklace on many royal appointments.

“It has the charm of a vintage piece but not only that it has beautifully crafted initials added to hang next to the stone.

“An ‘E’ for her husband, ‘L’ for her daughter Lady Louise Windsor and a ‘J’ for her son, James Viscount Severn.

“This necklace on a chain has been worn many times before, once with a shell clam which she has since removed.”

Sophie has customised the piece for different appearances but it has also featured the initials of her family.

The style has been copied by other royals including Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle, who have both sported initial necklaces over the years.

The personal meaning behind Sophie’s necklace means it is likely she will keep hold of it.

If it was to be sold, however, the jewellery expert suggested it could fetch a huge sum of money.

He explained it’s royal link and high quality would probably give the piece a large price tag.

“As with other extraordinary pieces from the royal household the quality is outstanding,” James added.

“Sometimes you just can’t always put a price on a personalised piece of jewellery, especially when details on the stone in terms of clarity and weight are not known.

“But it would be fair to say that a piece such as this with its royal connection along with added historic value could be worth in excess of £250,000.”
