Savvy mum creates £80 Harry Potter-inspired hallway – using samples of brick wallpaper and B&M shelves

A SAVVY homeowner has revealed how she gave her tired-looking hallway a Harry Potter-inspired makeover for less than £80.

Claire Arnold, who lives in the UK, shared the impressive before and after photos to Facebook Group DIY On A Budget Official, alongside a caption which explained: "I used samples of brick wallpaper and ripped the edges.

"I always keep spare paint for top ups, so tried to blend the edges with a brush and sponge.

"I wanted it to look like an old wall was breaking through….and it was easier than trying to paper a whole stair wall."

Claire went on to explain how she used just one roll of wallpaper which cost £12.99 and added a few obligatory mirrors which came to £8.99 each.

To complete the stairway, she decorated with £4 shelves from B&M, £3.99 lanterns and a £9.99 metal platform sign from The Range.

The clever homeowner already had the hanging brackets and wands, made the Dumbledore quote plaque over the mirror herself and spent £10 on the poster she cut up to put in the photo frames.

Speaking to Fabulous about the inspiration behind her handiwork, Claire commented: "I love DIY and am always building, making or painting something.

"Initially it was just going to be a shelf. I stayed awake all night with ideas whirring around."

She went on to say how her children became instant fans, which is what gave Claire the idea to do a Harry Potter theme somewhere in the house.

I'm very impulsive so when I had the vision in my head of what I wanted, I spent the day shopping for the things I needed and the evening putting it all together."
