Savvy gran revamps her old leather armchair with an £8 throw from Wilko

A CRAFTY gran rescued an old leather armchair from being binned and gave it a new lease of life after upcycling it with an £8 throw from Wilko’s.

Julie Wall revealed that her mum was intending to chuck the seat out, but she decided to revamp it as she hates seeing useful things thrown away.

Julie decided to turn the chair into a seat for her grandson’s nursery, and picked up a chic grey throw from the department store to cover it.

The mum shared snaps of her handiwork to Facebook group DIY On A Budget, where she revealed how she achieved the look.

Julie said: “My mum was going to send this old chair to the tip but I hate dumping things!

“So I completely stripped the chair and unpicked each panel to make templates for new fabric.

“Got an £8 throw from Wilko sewn together on my sewing machine then all pulled taunt and stapled underneath into wooden frame !

“Didn't want to spend fortune on fabric so throw was ideal as huge and had stretch to it and if I didn’t work out only wasted £8 !!

“The old legs were brown so gave a quick coat of grey paint.”

The finished product looks as good as new, with the grey legs giving the chair a polished look.

Julie was chuffed with her work – and happy she could restore the piece of furniture.

She added: “So pleased with how it has turned out… already for my first grandchild's nursery. [sic]

“Love upcycling we throw to much away these days… feels so satisfying to give an item a new lease of life.”
