Aquamarines have long been associated with water, and the stone represents happiness, hope and everlasting youth. The baby blue gem has found many fans within the Royal Family, with the late Queen Elizabeth II and Sophie, Countess of Wessex often pictured wearing aquamarine jewellery over the years.
On several occasions throughout her long reign, the Queen turned to her stunning aquamarine tiara.
According to the Court Jeweller, the Queen’s tiara is part of an aquamarine parure that started with a pair of earrings and a necklace.
These stunning jewels were gifted to the Queen on behalf of the people of Brazil to mark her coronation in 1953.
The Queen loved the jewels so much that later in the 1950s she commissioned a matching tiara, and Brazil gifted her a matching bracelet and brooch to complete the Brazil Parure.
The jewellery suite is adorned with distinct oblong-shaped aquamarines, and the stones are flawless in clarity and colour.
Like her late mother-in-law, Sophie, Countess of Wessex is also thought to be a fan of aquamarine jewellery.
In 2005, Sophie donned an elegant tiara crafted with wave motifs, and an oval aquamarine took centre stage.
The following year, Sophie demonstrated the tiara’s transformable qualities by wearing it as a necklace.

The Aquamarine Necklace Tiara is thought to be part of Sophie’s private jewellery collection.
But Sophie has also worn another aquamarine tiara featuring five big stones thought to be from the late Queen’s collection.
The Countess was pictured wearing the stunning diadem at the wedding of Princess Madeleine of Sweden and Christopher O’Neill in 2013.
According to MyLondon, experts have estimated that the Queen’s Brazillian parure is worth in excess of £5million.
In comparison, the Five Aquamarine Tiara that Sophie borrowed from the Queen is reportedly worth £1million. Sophie’s Aquamarine Necklace Tiara is worth approximately £500,000.
Adding to her catalogue of aquamarine jewels, Sophie also frequently dons a brooch and a statement ring featuring the stone.
The Queen was not the only royal to adore aquamarines, and her only daughter Princess Anne also owns an aquamarine tiara.
Princess Anne was gifted the Aquamarine Pine Flower Tiara by the Queen Mother on the occasion of her marriage to Captain Mark Phillips in 1973.
The Queen Mother had originally been gifted the diadem by her husband, King George VI, to mark their anniversary in the 1940s.
Another famous royal jewel featuring an aquamarine belonged to the late Diana, Princess of Wales.
After her divorce from then Prince Charles in 1996, Diana was pictured wearing an enormous aquamarine ring on her ring finger.
The aquamarine was believed to have been a gift from Diana’s friend, Lucia Flecha de Lima, and it was adorned with extra diamonds for a touch of sparkle.
The ring now belongs to Diana’s son Prince Harry, and his wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.
As her ‘something blue’ perhaps, Meghan wore it to her wedding reception in 2018.
