Prince William's Covid diagnosis was 'no secret' among the Royal Family and the Queen 'was worried for him'

PRINCE William’s coronavirus diagnosis was “no secret” among the royal family, an insider has revealed.

The Sun revealed yesterday that the Duke of Cambridge had tested positive for the virus just days after his father Prince Charles back in April.

But while the heir to the throne kept the public in the dark about his diagnosis, his family were fully aware of his illness.

A source told Vanity Fair’s royal correspondent Katie Nicholl, “It was no secret among the family, but William didn’t want it getting out because he didn’t want  to worry the nation.”

The source went on to reveal that the Queen had been “worried” about the diagnosis of her direct two heirs.

They continued: “ “The priority was keeping HMQ shielded and safe, which was thankfully what happened.

“But of course the queen was worried for Charles and William and relieved that they suffered only minor symptoms.”

William, 38, caught the virus in April days after dad, Prince Charles, and Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, were struck down.

William told one observer at an engagement: “There were important things going on and I didn’t want to worry anyone.”

The Duke was treated by palace doctors, and followed government guidelines by isolating at the family home Anmer Hall, in Norfolk.

Remarkably, he carried out 14 telephone and video call engagements during April.

A source said: "William was hit pretty hard by the virus – it really knocked him for six.

"At one stage he was struggling to breathe, so obviously everyone around him was pretty panicked.

"After seeing medics and testing positive – which was obviously quite a shock given how fit and healthy he is – William was determined it should be business as usual though.

"He was determined to fulfil his engagements."

It is understood that neither Kate Middleton, George, Charlotte nor Louis contracted the virus.
