How much does Melania Trump’s wardrobe cost?

The US First Lady spent an estimated £193,694 on clothes in 2019, according to reports on her outfits.

Some of her garments from the past year could not be identified which means her total spend is likely to be much more.

Melania’s year included a trip to Japan, an official UK state visit and attendance at the G7 summit.

The First Lady had a low-key start to the year as the US government was shut down for 35 days until 25 January 2019, meaning she was rarely seen in January.

In February, however, she spent a groundbreaking £16,000 on pieces for her wardrobe including a Cedric Charlier coat which cost £1,401.

Throughout the year, Melania showed off her love of designers including Michael Kors, Gucci and Chanel.

In April, the former model celebrated her 49th birthday and the month was full of glamorous looks.

Melania displayed a number of stylish coats including a lilac Valentino coat, £1,739, and a floral design by Adam Lippes, retailing just under £1,800.

In May, she headed on a four day trip to Japan which included everything from a state dinner to a sumo wrestling match.

For the short trip, she packed a Lora Piana jumpsuit, costing £2,619, a Calvin Klein patterned dress, £2,961, and a £3,409 J. Mendel gown.

In June, Melania joined the US president, Donald Trump, on a state visit to the UK where she met with the British Prime Minister and members of the Royal Family.

Although she only stayed in the country for three days, the First Lady managed to change into a number of pricey ensembles.

Arriving in the UK, Melania wore a green, red and white Gucci dress and matching belt which cost around £3,482.

To attend a dinner with Prince Charles, she opted for a stunning floor-length red gown which was designed by Givenchy and cost an impressive £5,610.

In June, Melania had her priciest month this year and spent an astounding £22,398 on clothes in just one day at the G7 summit.

The biggest purchase of the trip was a white bag she carried from luxury French brand, Hermes, which can be bought for a staggering £19,693.

Over the past year, the former model has spent an average of £16,000 a month on her wardrobe.

Earlier this month, Donald and Melania returned to the UK and she donned a striking yellow Valentino cape coat, £4,600, for dinner with the Royal Family.

Despite spending so much on her wardrobe this year, some may be surprised to learn she does not use taxpayers money for the purchases.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the First Lady may qualify for a discount on some clothing brands, due to her role in the public eye.

Melania may even receive some items as a gift but for those she does buy, her spokesperson has previously confirmed she pays for all of her own clothes.
