Karl Lagerfeld Teams with Famed Fashion Editor Carine Roitfeld for New Collaboration

Karl Lagerfeld has a new design partner and their upcoming collection is going to bring a huge dose of Parisian chic to your wardrobe.

Lagerfeld is collaborating with legendary French fashion editor Carine Roitfeld on the fall 2019 collection of his namesake label with a collection of “essential pieces” aptly named, The Edit.

The duo opened up about the project to WWD, which is due to launch in September. The Lagerfeld house told the website that Roitfeld is an “integral contributor to the Karl Lagerfeld brand.”

“She knows what she wants; she has a vision and she states her vision,” Lagerfeld, 85, told WWD in a statement. “She is actually what she seems to be; she matches her image, she fits in her universe, and she is a perfect match for KL.”

Roitfeld was the editor-in-chief of Vogue Paris from 2001 to 2011, famously consulted and became a muse for brands including Tom Ford at Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent. After leaving Vogue, she founded her own fashion magazine, CR Fashion Book, where she serves as editor-in-chief and works with Harper’s Bazaar as its global fashion director.

Roitfeld, 64, called Lagerfeld “one of the smartest, most inventive and innovative people I have ever known.”

“After all these years, Karl never calls me Carine — always Madame Roitfeld,” she said. “Our collaborations are always such a pleasure, and continue to be inspiring and exciting each and every time.”

Lagerfeld, who also designs for Chanel and Fendi, previously tapped the fashionable editor for his groundbreaking and highly successful line with H&M in 2004 and worked together in 2012 when they co-authored the book, The Little Black Jacket: Chanel’s Classic Revisited.

Lagerfeld largely designs solo, but last year he tapped 16-year-old model Kaia Gerber, the daughter of Cindy Crawford, to collaborate on his fall 2018 line, Karl x Kaia, for his namesake label. The collection launched in September and kicked off with a glamorous party in Paris, which Roitfeld attended.

The upcoming collection with Roitfeld will be sold in Karl Lagerfeld stores, karl.com and with select wholesale partners.

This announcement follows the news that Lagerfeld recently sat out of his latest Paris Haute Couture fashion show for Chanel after “feeling tired.”

“For the traditional greeting at the end of the show, Mr. Lagerfeld, artistic director of Chanel, who was feeling tired, asked Virginie Viard, director of the creative studio of the house, to represent him and greet the guests alongside the bride,” Chanel said in a statement to WWD.
