I’m a celebrity stylist – the trick to ALWAYS looking stylish and what I tell every client

THERE’S one trick that can easily elevate any look and have you looking totally stylish, according to one celebrity stylist.

Celebrity stylist Erika Ball has shared her number one fashion tip, and it’s what she tells all of her famous clients too – you MUST get your clothes tailored.

Erika says that getting your clothes tailored is important, as when the clothing is made it is based on a size model, and chances are you may not have the exact same body type as this model.

This means that some clothes may not fit you quite right, even if they are in your size.

Erika adds that there are a number of different alterations that can be made to ensure that any item of clothing will fit you perfectly and have you looking amazing.

One alteration this stylist recommends is to have your jeans altered, saying: “If you’re on the shorter size, if you’re petite, or your legs are shorter, or your torsos longer, you will most likely need to get your jeans tailored to be the appropriate length.”

Erika also recommends telling the tailor that you want the original hem sewed back on, rather than having them create  new hem. She adds that this can look a lot nicer as the original hem will have been designed specifically for those jeans.

Another item that you may want to get tailored are dress pants. Erika recommends trying them on with both heels and flats so that your tailor can find the perfect spot that the hemline should be.

She adds that with these trousers, you can also ask for any pockets to be sewn down. Pockets can actually make you look bigger than you, so having this alteration can make you appear slimmer and more stylish.

If the waist is too small, Erika suggests having an extra piece of fabric sewn in to ensure the perfect fit.

The next item she suggests having altered is skirts and dresses, adding that by having these tailored you can get the perfect length for your body.

She identifies the pencil skirt as one that most women should probably get tailored. Adding, that for women under 5”6’ you’ll want the pencil skirt to reach just above your knees, but not go any longer as this can make you appear shorter.

When it comes to maxi skirts and dresses, Erika says that you want to make sure that these aren’t so long that you’re stepping on them as this can cause damage to the material.

According to this celebrity stylist, you should also make sure to have your blazers tailored. Tailors can change the length of the sleeves to get a better fit on your arm, and can also move the buttons if necessary.

Erika adds that the perfect blazer sleeve length should reach just past your wrist, saying that this will “give you a lengthening look.”

For those who are petite, the length of the blazer itself can also be altered. The perfect blazer length, according to Erika, is just hitting the hip. If it’s too long it can make your frame appear much shorter.

If you find yourself with a dress that is slightly too low-cut for the event you plan to wear it, Erika again suggests having this tailored. The tailor can use extra material that will usually be a part of the dress to create a neckline that is slightly higher up.

Tailoring, according to Erika, is the most important thing you can do to ensure that you are looking, and feeling, stylish.
