The Queen’s jewellery collection has grown over centuries and is known to be worth a staggering fortune. The Queen has worn several tiaras over the years at official royal engagements or on tours around the world. On occasion, the Queen has also been known to lend a tiara to her royal relatives for their wedding days.
How much is the Queen’s tiara collection worth?
It isn’t clear exactly how much the Queen’s entire tiara collection is worth – many of the pieces are essentially priceless and could never be truly valued.
But with help from jewellers at Steven Stone, money.co.uk investigated which royal tiara collections around the world are the most expensive, based on the three tiaras most recently worn by members of royal families.
The UK’s Royal Family was found to have the most expensive tiaras, coming in joint first place with the royal family of the Netherlands.
Meghan Markle wore the Queen Mary Bandeau tiara at her and Prince Harry’s wedding in 2018.
Princess Eugenie opted for the Greville Emerald Kokoshnik tiara when she married Jack Brooksbank in 2018.
Princess Beatrice wore the Queen Mary’s Diamond Fringe tiara for her wedding to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi during the lockdown last year.
According to money.co.uk, the combined cost of the three most recently worn royal tiaras came out at a staggering £17million.
The Greville Emerald Kokoshnik tiara Princess Eugenie wore for her wedding is said to be the most expensive of the royal tiaras.
The tiara was hand made by Boucheron in 1919 and it originally belonged to the heiress Mrs Greville, who was a friend of the Queen Mother.
The tiara’s design was inspired by the Russian imperial court and when Mrs Greville died, she left it to the Queen Mother.
When the Queen Mother died, the Queen inherited the tiara as a new addition to her collection.

The stunning piece is thought to be worth up to £10million if it was sold at auction.
While the Greville Emerald Kokoshnik tiara is thought to be the most expensive of the royal tiaras, many of the other royal tiaras come with priceless significance for the Royal Family.
Princess Beatrice’s tiara choice for her wedding day was particularly poignant, as she chose to wear the same tiara her grandmother wore when she married Prince Philip in 1947.
As well as being worn by the Queen on her wedding day, the Queen’s daughter Princess Anne also wore the tiara for her Westminster Abbey wedding in 1973.
Kate Middleton wore the Cartier Halo tiara for her wedding to Prince William in 2011.
The tiara has important royal significance also, as it was commissioned by King George VI just before his reign started as a gift for his wife, the future Queen Mother.
Which royals haven’t worn a royal tiara on their wedding day?
Princess Margaret famously wore her own tiara for her wedding day in 1960 rather than borrow a tiara from her sister, the Queen.
Princess Margaret was said to have purchased her own wedding tiara, the Poltimore tiara, at an auction.
Princess Diana also opted to wear her own tiara for her wedding to Prince Charles in 1981.
Diana wore the Spencer Tiara, which is a Spencer family heirloom.
