From the Met Gala to Louis Vuitton's Cruise Collection: inside Ruth Negga's exceptionally fashionable week

Irish actress Ruth Negga is in the middle of an exceptionally fashion-centric week.

The Oscar-nominated star was one of the best dressed guests at Monday night’s Met Gala, the most exclusive night in the world’s fashion calendar, as a guest of Louis Vuitton. Negga has been a brand ambassador for the French fashion house for more than two years, since shooting to global prominence in 2016’s Loving and shooting to the top of best dressed lists in the process.

She joined other Irish women of equally impressive calibre like three-time Oscar nominee Saoirse Ronan and British Vogue contributing editor Sinéad Burke (both in Gucci) for the annual celebration of the first Monday in May at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. Although it was a night mainly focused on Katy Perry dressed as a chandelier, Zendaya’s Cinderella transformation and Lady Gaga’s jaw-dropping four outfit changes; Ruth’s glittering black trousers and gold headpiece made for a more low-key version of the event’s camp theme.

Fresh from filming Brad Pitt’s astronaut sci-fi thriller, she is currently spending time in New York and continued her support of her fiercest fashion supporter by attending the Louis Vuitton Cruise Collection 2020 Fashion Show held at the TWA Flight Centre at JFK Airport on Wednesday night. She and the brand’s creative director Nicolas Ghesquière happily posed together outside the show, which was held in Manhattan for the first time in years.

The terminal has been vacant since 2001 and it’s expected to open its doors as the TWA Hotel later this year with more than 500 guest rooms and an observation deck of 10,000 feet.

She was among the prestigious guestlist of LV muses and impressive talent including Cate Blanchett, Emma Stone, Alicia Vikander, Michelle Williams and Justin Theroux. Sophie Turner and new husband Joe Jonas also attended. They also all featured in the brand’s Cruise Collection 2020 lookbook, handpicked for their strength and style.

“These women embrace the various personalities that embody fashion at Louis Vuitton. Be they stars or new faces, all of them share the same willpower and confidence in their choices, and at the same time, reflect the eclecticism of the female identity,” Ghesquière said in a statement.

A cruise – or resort – collection is a mid-season offering from high-end labels which features ready-to-wear clothing to cater to those who head for the sun in the colder months.
