The hardest working member of the royal family has been revealed
Whether you are a royalist or not, it is hard to ignore the fact that being a part of the country’s most famous family involves more than just wearing a bejewelled crown and waving a sceptre about. The Queen and the rest of ‘The Firm’ have to attend many functions; from launches to openings, their presence is required at hundred of events throughout the year.

Every year, royal fan Tim O’Donovan calculates all the public appearances of the different members of the royal family and works out who has worked the hardest.
Tim is 87 years old and has been making the calculations for 40 years using the Court Circular, which is the official record of past royal engagements.
Taking the crown for the busiest royal is future king, Prince Charles. He has been exceptionally busy this year having racked up 521 engagements. However, we all love a bit of healthy sibling rivalry and his younger sister Princess Anne was hot on his tail coming in at a close second with 506.
Considering the Queen is 93 years old, she tallied a very impressive amount, with just under 300. Meanwhile her grandson, Prince William, The Duke of Cambridge has managed 220 and his brother Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex, has scored 201.
Kate Middleton, The Duchess of Cambridge, has managed to represent the family 126 times, while Meghan Markle, The Duchess of Sussex has been flying the monarchy flag on 83 occasions this year.
Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex, has been to 308 events and all of the statistics, combined with the efforts of the less well-known family members, bring the total number of engagements attended in 2019 to 3,567!

The Royal Family
The Queen’s husband Prince Philip was not counted in the study because he retired from his royal duties in 2017 at the age of 96. However, he has definitely done his bit – it is estimated that he fulfilled 22, 219 solo engagements.
By next year these numbers could well shift. Prince Andrew carried out 274 royal engagements this year, but has now stepped down from public duties for the foreseeable future following the Jeffrey Epstein scandal. Additionally, Harry and Meghan are on a six week break in Canada with their adorable baby son Archie Harrison, and it is unknown how heavily involved they will be with royal duties come 2020.
Nevertheless, Tim will continue to follow their progress. He says: “It’s not a competition. I just think it’s important for people to know how much the Royal Family do.”
