The Crown's Meg Bellamy makes a low-key red carpet appearance in jeans

The Crown star Meg Bellamy makes a low-key red carpet appearance in casual blue jeans at GQ Men of the Year Awards… but what would Kate say?

Meg Bellamy cut a low-key figure on Wednesday night as she arrived at the star-studded GQ Men of the Year Awards in London.

The Crown actress, 20, was worlds away from Kate Middleton as she posed on the red carpet at the Royal Opera House’s Paul Hamlyn Hall.

While she’s perfectly executed the future Queen’s younger years in The Crown, Kate, this time, opted for a simple pair of blue jeans and a fashionable black strapless corset.

Meg elevated the understated ensemble by adding a pair of black patent leather high heels.

The stunner completed her trendy outfit with a chunky silver bangle and sported a subtle makeup look to showcase her natural beauty.

Meg plays Kate Middleton in the sixth and final season of The Crown, with the series depicting the start of the Duchess’s romance with Prince William.

When she was cast in the role, Meg had no official acting credits to her name, and auditioned after earning an A* for drama in her A-levels at St Crispin’s School in Wokingham, Berkshire.

She had previously only taken part in school productions and had a part-time job at Legoland in nearby Windsor.

William and Kate became friends in their first year at university before romance blossomed after William saw ‘hot’ Kate strut down a charity fashion show catwalk in a sheer dress.

When they returned for their second year at the University of St Andrews, the pair and two pals opted to live off campus in a quaint two-storey home in the city.

They moved into 13A Hope Street, which cost just £100 per week each, with housemates Etonian Fergus Boyd and Olivia Bleasdale.

The modest home included a small kitchen, where William is said to have tried to impress Kate with his culinary skills.

He had relocated to the prestigious university in Fife after completing his studies at Eton College in 2001. They graduated in 2005 and William proposed five years later.

William said: ‘We were both very young, it was at university and we were both finding ourselves and being different characters and stuff. It was very much trying to find our own way and we were growing up.’

The first part of series six will be released on Netflix on November 16 and fans will see some historic moments recreated on screen – including Princess Diana’s final days before she died in a car crash in Paris in August 1997.

A statement from Netflix revealed that the season will cover the time period around the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, as well as covering the meeting of Prince William and Kate in the early 2000s.

It says: ‘A relationship blossoms between Princess Diana and Dodi Fayed before a fateful car journey has devastating consequences.

‘Prince William tries to integrate back into life at Eton in the wake of his mother’s death as the monarchy has to ride the wave of public opinion.

‘As she reaches her Golden Jubilee, the Queen reflects on the future of the monarchy with the marriage of Charles and Camilla and the beginnings of a new Royal fairytale in William and Kate.’
