Stranger Things’ Millie Bobby Brown talks of insecurity following online abuse

Stranger Things actress Millie Bobby Brown has opened up about brutal online criticism and the trolling she has received as she marks her 16th birthday.

During what is meant to be a joyous day for the teenager, Millie used her platform of31.9 million followers to raise awareness for the repercussions of vicious online abuse.

The British superstar, who found fame for her role as Eleven in the hit Netflix show, slammed social media and then also led calls for making changes for future generations.

“16 has felt like a long time coming. i feel like change needs to happen for not only this generation but the next,” she began her powerful statement.

“our world needs kindness and support in order for us children to grow and succeed.

“the last few years haven't been easy, I'll admit that. there are moments i get frustrated from the inaccuracy, inappropriate comments, sexualization, and unnecessary insults that ultimately have resulted in pain and insecurity for me.

“but not ever will i be defeated. ill continue doing what i love and spreading the message in order to make change.

The A-list teenager posted a statement alongside a two-minute medley of clips alongside examples of bullying she had received.

At a time when social media and online bullying has been firmly thrown into the limelight – with many calling for more regulations against nasty keyboard warriors – her powerful birthday message strongly resonated with her fan base.

“Happy birthday beautiful girl @milliebobbybrown your actions set the example for yours and future generations. You're doing a fantastic job!” wrote one follower.

“Sending all the love to you and join you as a change maker and giver of kindness,” said another.
