Coronation Street, Casualty and Doctors star Jennifer Wilson has died aged 89 at her home in France

Actress Jennifer Wilson has passed away aged 89. 

Jennifer was renowned for her roles as Mrs Bradbury in Coronation Street, Lily Compton in Casualty and Jennifer Hammond in the 1970s series The Brothers.

A family friend confirmed Jennifer’s passing on Twitter last week, writing on the social media site that she had passed away in Cannes.

Her cause of death is not known.

The post featured a photo of Jennifer, along with the words: ‘Farewell my lovely friend Jennifer Wilson who has passed away in Cannes aged 89. Jenny was a Shakesperean starlet before finding success in TV, most notably as Jennifer Kingsley in The Brothers. 

‘I shall remember the balmy hot nights in Cannes we shared together and the laughs.’

Jennifer’s additional credits include Doctors, Last Of The Summer Wine and Doomwatch.

Her final onscreen experience is thought to have been in 2015, when she featured in as Nancy Milne in several episodes of Doctors.

Her career also took her to The Mermaid Theatre in 1965, where she appeared in Bill Naughton’s stage play Spring and Port Wine.

According to The Sun, the actress started her career on stage, starring in plays like Twelfth Night and Macbeth before making her television debut as Kate Nickleby in BBC’s serial Nicholas Nickleby. 

It was on set that she met husband Brian Peck, who died in 2021.

Jennifer leaves behind daughter Melanie, an actress and singer, and her grandsons Tobie and Ashley.
