Richard E Grant's wife Joan Washington dies aged 71: 'Our hearts are broken'

Richard E Grant has paid tribute to the ‘love of his life’ Joan Washington, who has died aged 71.

The 64-year-old actor confirmed his wife of 35 years died on Thursday night.

Grant shared a video of him dancing with Joan before embracing her, and tweeted: ‘ONLY YOU! Joan – Love of my Life & Giver of Life to our daughter Olivia. Our hearts are broken with the loss of your Life last night. 35 years married & 38 together.

‘To be truly known and seen by you, is your immeasurable gift. Do not forget us, sweet Monkee-mine.’

Fans and friends shared their condolences, with writer Nat Saunders replying: ‘so sorry for your immeasurable loss.’

Another reply read: ‘Oh Richard, I’m so so sorry for your loss. Your deep love and adulation for Joan is clear and evident in everything you wrote and shared about her. I wish you and Olivia peace in your grief and joy in her memory.’

They referred to Olivia as their ‘miracle baby’.

Richard often shared pictures of Joan to his social media accounts, and in December, he posted a picture of his wife celebrating her 71st birthday.

He wrote: ‘HAPPY BIRTHDAY @joandialect Everyday you make me laugh and love you all the more deeply.’
