Rex Ryan blasts New England Patriots: ‘This team is short on talent and Tom Brady knows it’

The New England Patriots are 9-1 after 10 games, yet everywhere you look, they are receiving a lot of criticism and negativity about their lack of offense.

Following Tom Brady’s postgame comments on Sunday, it seems like it is piling on time for many sports enthusiasts and media members –  and the latest to do so was former Jets and Bills head coach Rex Ryan.

Rex has first-hand experience vs Patriots

Rex Ryan has never been shy about expressing his opinion. Having spent plenty of time in the AFC East as the head coach of the New York Jets (2009-2014) and Buffalo Bills (2015-2016), Ryan knows what it is like to be beaten by Brady and the Patriots on a regular basis.

Still, Ryan wasted no time in coming out to say how bad the Patriots really are – even though they own the best record in the AFC.

“They don’t have any speed,” Ryan said on ESPN’s ‘Get Up.’ “There’s no threats. Their two best receivers are both slot receivers. In other words, they need to be off the ball to be effective.”

“Why did they bring in Antonio Brown with a laundry list of things? Why? Because they needed a weapon. Why did they draft a guy in the first round? This team is short of talent and [Brady] knows it.”

Patriots still rank near the top

While Ryan does have a few valid points, is it really fair to say that the Patriots are “short on talent?” Yes, they are playing a bit on the erratic side right now. However, it is hard to say the Pats are struggling on offense.

If they still had Antonio Brown, would this team be better? They must not believe so since they released Brown after just one game due to his off the field issues.

The Patriots sure could use a big goto guy alongside Julian Edelman and Phillip Dorsett, but this team is far from poor on the offensive side of the ball

Their 287 total points so far this season puts them only behind Baltimore and Kansas City for the most scored in the NFL.

They also boast one of the best defenses in the league which has yielded just 108 points through 10 games. That gives New England a +179 differential, which is the best in the NFL.

The addition of Mohamed Sanu will help the offense down the line for New England as well. It hasn’t even been one month since the Patriots traded for the former Atlanta Falcons wideout and sometimes it takes a while to get used to a new offense and team.

While many Patriots fans take Ryan’s comments with a grain of salt, Ryan did say he wished one of his former defenses had a shot to go against the 2019 Patriots offense because he knows they would have dominated.
