Queen Elizabeth’s Secret Pain From #Megxit: ‘She Just Wants It Over’

Wow, if this is true, this is the most insight we’ve gotten into Queen Elizabeth‘s emotional state in forever!

Her Majesty is typically a reigning example of the British ideal of the stiff upper lip and has continued to be so throughout the latest family calamity that is #Megxit.

After Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made the historic statement announcing their intentions to step away from their place as senior members of the Royal family and “carve out a progressive new role within this institution,” the Queen has hinted in carefully worded official statements she might not be totally on board.

But while Prince Charles was reportedly livid, Liz II has worked with Harry and Meghan to make the split happen in the cleanest, most agreeable way possible.

According to a new source spilling the penny Royal tea to Vanity Fair over the weekend, the Queen is hurting a LOT more than she’s letting on. In fact, her acquiescence isn’t because she’s fine with her grandson and his bride leaving — but because she is too upset to fight it! The insider says:

“She generally doesn’t want to talk about it. The Queen has been keen to get this resolved because she sees it is damaging to the monarchy and on a personal level I think this has been rather hurtful for her. She has got to the point where she doesn’t want to think about it anymore, she just wants it over and done with.”

Just close her eyes and thinking of England. That’s the Liz we know.

However, the monarch has had to put her foot down at least once, as we recently reported in detail. She just can’t let Harry and Meghan monetize the word Royal; no member of The Firm is allowed to do that, not even ones who left.

While she was fine with the couple remaining the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, she had to send a message on this point — because the very future of the monarchy as an institution was at stake! Royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith explains:

“By ruling against their use of the Sussex Royal brand, she drew the line on exploiting their royal connection for profit. I think in the process she has showed the sort of flexibility and adherence to standards that strengthen the monarchy.”

After all, if there’s a perception the crown is for sale, why would anyone take it seriously ever again?

And so Her Majesty stood firm, and as we’ve told you, Harry and Meghan backed right off. Former courtier Patrick Jephson explains:

“The Queen’s disciplinary power within her family is seldom mentioned and seldom used. The mere threat of her displeasure is enough to keep the troops in line most of the time. When something more emphatic is required in defense of the dynasty, she does what’s necessary. People are reassured when she acts to protect the monarchy. It’s an institution that occasionally has to demonstrate robust self-belief to remain credible as a focus of national unity. Perhaps it’s her longevity but the Queen has a gift for keeping problems in perspective. Her instincts are humane, cautious and pragmatic.”

Smith agrees Elizabeth has shown a lot of strength:

“For all the travails of last year and the early months of 2020, she continues to maintain her enviable serenity and carries out her duties in her unflappable fashion. Of course these family crises have been challenging, vexing, and sad. But in removing Andrew from his public duties and negotiating the tricky departure of Harry and Meghan from royal life, the Queen was decisive and sure-footed.”

Oof, we’d almost forgotten she’s dealing with the fallout from Prince Andrew as well.

She really has been earning that throne lately…

Do YOU think Elizabeth has been successful at hiding how much she’s hurt by all this??
