Prince Harry Presents Marines with Their Green Berets as Meghan Markle Continues N.Y.C. Trip

Prince Harry, reporting for royal duty!

While Meghan Markle continues her stay in New York City with friends for her baby shower, Harry paid a visit to the 42 Commando Royal Marines at their base in Bickleigh on Wednesday.

The 34-year-old prince, wearing his camouflage uniform, learned about the specialist teams who are at high readiness to deploy around the world to deliver maritime security, support and training. The Duke of Sussex saw a Joint Personnel Recovery demonstration in which Royal Marines disembark from a Merlin helicopter and simulate the rescue of an F35 pilot from the new HMS Queen Elizabeth Aircraft Carrier.

Harry, who took over the role of Captain General Royal Marines from his grandfather Prince Philip in December 2017 and served in the Army for 10 years, rising to the rank of Captain and undertaking two tours of Afghanistan, smiled as he met some of the Royal Marines currently serving with the unit.

Harry also had the honor of saluting recruits and presenting them with their Green Berets, which symbolically marks the completion of their training, after they complete their final Commando Test. They must complete a 30-mile march while carrying about 40 lbs. of equipment in just eight hours.

Meghan was spotted around New York on Tuesday, checking out some art at the nearby Met Breuer before grabbing a bite to eat at French restaurant Café Boulud with former Suits costar Abigail Spencer. Later that night, she was joined by longtime pals  Serena Williams, Jessica Mulroney, and Markus Anderson for dinner at Ralph Lauren’s restaurant The Polo Bar.

The mini stateside homecoming – the former actress hails from Los Angeles, where her mother Doria still resides – comes shortly before Meghan and Harry are heading to Morocco for a three-day visit highlighting two of their key causes: girls’ education and youth empowerment.
