Prince Harry and Meghan Markle ‘won’t join Queen, 95, for Christmas’

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will not be attending Christmas with the Queen this year, sources have claimed.

The Sussexes reportedly did not receive an invite from Her Majesty, 95, who will be her celebrating her first Christmas without husband, Prince Philip, who died in April.

Prince Harry and Meghan are instead expected to remain in California over the holidays in their £1 million estate with children Archie, 2, and Lilibet, five months, according to an insider.

"There’s a lot that goes into the logistics and the planning of the family Christmas, so of course, staff know that Harry and Meghan are not coming,” they told Page Six.

"If they were, they would have communicated it to their family by now," they continued.

"But this is Her Majesty’s first Christmas without her husband, so one would have hoped they would want to be with her."

It is thought that the couple wish to avoid the “media frenzy” that would surround them if they were to return to the UK together.

Health concerns have surrounded the Queen since she was instructed to rest following a hospital visit a few weeks ago, leading to her declining all Royal duties including an appearance at the COP26 event in October.

Her Majesty has since returned to some “light” work and made her first face-to-face engagement this week with chief of the defence staff, General Sir Nick Carter, at Windsor Castle.

While on tour in Jordan, Prince Charles gave an update today on his mother’s wellbeing.

“She's alright, thank you very much,” he said. "Once you get to 95, it's not quite as easy as it used to be. It's bad enough at 73."

Prince Harry has not been able to physically check up on his grandmother during this time due to the distance between them and it appears there is no reconciliation set yet for and him and the rest of his family.

The question of whether or not the Royals based in the UK will be invited to daughter Lilibet’s christening – and where it will be held – is still up in the air.

“[Prince Harry and Meghan] seem to have very fixed views about the privacy of family occasions,” Royal author Adam Helliker told The Sun.

"I think having the christening in the UK will be putting too much pressure on them.

"And I think Meghan will be putting her foot down and say no we don't want an international circus."

Although there may be differing approaches as to how each side of the family mark special occasions moving forward, both parties are “striving for reconciliation” according to Adam and see Harry’s return "imperative for family unity."
