Pippa Middleton Steps Out for First Public Post-Baby Appearance in Bold New Dress

While her sister Kate Middleton tried her hand at bartending in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Pippa Middleton was home in London for her first official post-baby appearance on Wednesday night.

Pippa, 35, and husband James Matthews have been spotted around London and on vacation in St. Barts since becoming parents, but the gala event marked Pippa’s first official outing since becoming a mom in the fall.

Pippa opted for a bold, multi-colored patterned floor-length Alice Temperley dress, which featured a black bow at the collar. She carried a red clutch and wore her hair in an updo with a halo braid. Her husband James was also in attendance.

The new mom, who welcomed son Arthur Michael William in October, stepped out for the charity gala event on behalf of the British Heart Foundation. Pippa is an ambassador for the organization, and also gave a moving speech at the event, telling the audience how much her role with the organization has meant to her.

Pippa followed in the footsteps of her royal big sister by giving birth in the Lindo Wing of St. Mary’s Hospital — the same place where Kate and Prince William welcomed all three of their royal children.

A source previously told PEOPLE that Pippa and her husband, James, are looking forward to settling down and “having children and leading a quiet life.”

And their new baby will have plenty of little playmates. In addition to cousins Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, Matthews’ younger brother, Spencer Matthews, welcomed his first child, a son, with his wife, model Vogue Williams, in early September.
