Ollie Ollerton, 49, shared that he is “happy” now he will no longer be a part of future UK SAS: Who Dares Wins episodes, after being suddenly fired from the programme in August. The military veteran admitted he was no longer feeling “content” towards the end of his appearance in the series, as his aspirations lay elsewhere.

My time was over

Ollie Ollerton

Ollie is currently a DS (directing staff) member on SAS Australia, which is based upon the UK show.

He has now commented: “I’m more than happy that I’m doing the one in Australia, but my time in the UK one was over really.

“I wasn’t content doing that show, my focus is my books, my focus is my business, and I was starting to fail to understand how that fits in.

“It did exactly what I wanted it to do, it created exposure and allowed me to be able to have a voice and write books and start my companies.

“Everything I do is there to help other people,” he added.

Ollie was axed from SAS: Who Dares Wins after appearing on the show for seven seasons, amid claims of a “diversity drive” at Channel 4.

Channel 4 responded: “Ollie continues to be associated with the SAS: Who Dares Wins Brand as a DS for SAS: Who Dares Wins Australia. Ollie has made an exceptional contribution to SAS: Who Dares Wins and the expertise and experience he brought to the Directing Staff team has been much valued. We wish him great success with his future projects.”

At the time Ollie remarked that he expected “loyalty” from the channel to be reciprocated, after bringing the show to fruition alongside DS Ant Middleton, Jason “Foxy” Fox and Mark “Billy” Billingham.

The 49-year-old divulged that his fellow instructors had threatened to quit the show and leave with him. However, he convinced them to stay.

Now Ollie is publishing his first-ever fiction novel Scar Tissue, a gripping military thriller centred around the main protagonist Alex Abbott, a disgraced special forces soldier.

The book is inspired by Ollie’s six years in the special forces, working within the Special Boat Service as a Special Forces Combat Frogman.

He explained: “The heartbeat of the book, everything about it, is me.

“It’s really about a guy who was working in a very stressful situation. Although he [Alex] was working in a very dangerous hazardous situation, the real war was going on inside of him.

“So it’s about him facing battle within himself, but then having to face that external threat and danger.

“I think everyone can relate to an element of that. We have all got stuff going on in our lives,” he added.

Ollie previously battled alcohol and drug abuse after returning from serving in Baghdad.

He recalled being on a “road of destruction’ as he struggled to cope with the loss of routine in his life, after being in a military regime for many years.

He admitted: “It was a slippery slope, I was repeating the same cycles.

“It was a destructive pattern of alcohol abuse, drug abuse, all kinds of stuff. It was just a road of destruction, I knew I needed to change that.

“That didn’t resolve itself as soon as I came back. It took a good five years after that that I got sorted.”
