Metallica Perform National Anthem At San Francisco Giants Game

Ahead of a sold-out San Francisco Giants game last Friday, Metallica frontman James Hetfield and guitarist Kirk Hammett performed the National Anthem to mark the seventh “Metallica Night” at Oracle Park.

Drummer Lars Ulrich threw out the ceremonial first pitch.

“We’re blessed to be doing this every year and being a part of the vibe here. You know, when times are good, when times are bad, they need the support,” Hetfield said about the annual event.

Since 2013, the San Francisco Giants have hosted Metallica Night: a fully Metallica-themed special event where members of the band take part in festivities throughout the night including the ceremonial first pitch, announcing the starting lineup, and in-game activities with a special rendition of the National Anthem by James and Kirk on guitar kicking the whole thing off.

Metallica fans can enter a charity sweepstakes to win the Giants-themed guitar played by either Hetfield or Hammett and signed by all four band members.
