Meghan Markle Steps Out in All Winter White for Glam Night with Prince Harry at Museum

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry stepped out for a gala night for a new play that heralds a cause close to their hearts on Tuesday.

The royal couple, who are expecting their first child this spring, attended a special performance at the Natural History Museum in London of Wider Earth, a new theater production that supports their work on behalf of protecting forests around the world.

The Duchess of Sussex sported a monochrome look for the outing, pairing a cream-colored turtleneck dress by Calvin Klein with a coat by Amanda Wakeley, which she previously wore in March 2018 for a church service celebrating Commonwealth Day at Westminster Abbey. She carried the olive green clutch and green suede pumps she wore for Prince Louis’ christening last summer, and swept her hair into a romantic updo.

Inside the historic London landmark museum, the couple met donors and children and took a peek at some of the exhibits on show, including a preserved common octopus collected by Darwin in 1832, a first copy of On The Origin of Species, and a collection of wasps he made on The Beagle and other voyages.

The production centers around Charles Darwin’s journey aboard the HMS Beagle. The event was in support of the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust, of which Harry, 34, is president, and the production’s official charitable partner, The Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy (QCC) — a network of conservation initiatives to conserve indigenous forests across the globe.

During Harry and Meghan’s tour of Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Tonga, last fall, they unveiled six dedications to the QCC and welcomed commitment to the initiative by its latest member, Kiribati.

The couple’s outing comes just days after some of Meghan’s closest friends spoke out to PEOPLE for the first time about her treatment in the media.

A longtime friend who was with Meghan last month before one of her public outings, told PEOPLE: “Harry and I were sitting with the dogs, and we were all chatty, and she’s painting her nails. Except for her wedding she does all her own makeup. Dresses herself, styles herself. I said, ‘People think when you come out of the car that you went through some metaphorical reverse car wash. Bibbidibobbidi-boo, and everyone’s doing all this stuff to you. They’re not picthing you sitting by the space heater doing your own hair and nails.’ She’s very self-service.”

Harry and Meghan, who also went glam last week for a special awards night, have put the Commonwealth (the 53 family of nations connected to the U.K.) and the environment at the center of their working life.

They couple is keeping busy leading up to Meghan’s due date in late April. Late week they announced that they will embark on a three-day visit to Morocco from February 23 to 25.
