Mariah Carey Sued By Brother Over Emotional Distress Caused By Memoir

Mariah Carey‘s brother Morgan Carey has filed a lawsuit against his sister alleging that her memoir defamed him and caused him emotional distress.

Morgan claims that his depiction in her memoir “The Meaning of Mariah Carey” defamed him and caused him intentional infliction of emotional distress.

Morgan is also filing suit against Carey’s publisher Henry Holt & Co. and its imprint Andy Cohen Books, along with the book’s co-author Michaela Angela Davis.

Morgan says the book falsely suggests he was violent. He is seeking unspecified damages.

Mariah in her memoir said that she had “few memories of a big brother who protected me” and that “more often, I felt I had to protect myself from him and sometimes I would find myself protecting my mother from him too.”

She said that “Morgan had a long history of violence, of being mixed up with shady characters and shady situations, and there was no telling what he might do for money.”

Last month, Mariah Carey’s older sister Alison Carey also filed a lawsuit against Mariah seeking $1.2 million for “immense emotional distress” caused by remarks in the memoir.
