Kate Winslet denies The Holiday sequel but admits it’s ‘worth considering’

Kate Winslet has denied rumours that her classic Christmas movie, The Holiday, is set to get a sequel after she told Good Morning Britain she had not "received any phone calls".

It comes after reports claimed original actors Cameron Diaz, 50, Jude Law, 49, Kate Winslet, 47, and Jack Black, 53, were all set to star in the sequel.

But Kate, who played journalist Iris, admitted she had only heard the rumours herself earlier this week.

Speaking on the Avatar 2 red carpet yesterday, the actress said: "I honestly heard that myself today and I was like, 'Well, that's news to me'. I don't think that's a real thing, I'm afraid.

"I certainly haven't received any phone calls about that, I promise you I have not."

Despite her initial dismissal of the rumours, she stated that if the reports had been true then the project would be "worth considering".

She said: "I mean, it's worth considering. I'm curious but I don't even know what the storyline would be."

Kate also told People that no agents or representatives had contacted her about the sequel.

She said: I read something about that, but it’s the first I’ve heard of it.

"I promise you not an agent or a representative or anyone from the first one around has had any conversation with me about that. Hand on heart, that’s never come up."

Writer and director of the original movie, Nancy Meyers, has also denied the reports. She took to Instagram with a screenshot of an earlier Daily Mail story and stated: "So many DM’s about this – sorry but it’s not true."

The Holiday follows the story of LA-based movie producer Amanda (Cameron) and Surrey-based Iris (Kate), who decide to swap homes over the Christmas holidays, after both experiencing disaster in their love lives.

Amanda meets Iris' brother Graham (Jude), with whom she falls in love, whilst Iris forms a firm friendship with Miles (Jack) – although it's not clear if the relationship is romantic.

We last saw the foursome enjoying a wholesome Christmas with Graham's two daughters at his home in England.

The rumours of a reunion first began circulating when an insider told The Sun that plans had been in put in place to start filming next year.

The source said: "The plan is to start filming next year. The main talent are all signed up.

"It's one of the most successful movies of its kind and still enjoyed every year by millions of fans around the world – it makes perfect sense to revisit those characters and find out what became of their lives after they hooked up.

"It'll be funny, poignant, and heartwarming – just what everyone wants for Christmas."
