Joey Essex and Maura Higgins break silence after kissing pictures at Pride of Britain Awards

Joey Essex has broken his silence after he was pictured kissing Love Island’s Maura Higgins during the Pride of Britain Awards on Monday.

The Pride of Britain Awards saw celebrities walk the red carpet in their best glamour alongside recipients of the prestigious awards.

Maura, who came fourth in season five of Love Island alongside Curtis Pritchard, was pictured getting close to TOWIE’s Joey during the event.

Following the star-studded ceremony, the two were seen appearing to share a steamy kiss before leaving together in a taxi.

Now Joey, 32, has broken his silence after taking to Instagram to share an update on his recent finger injury.

“Healing good,” the star wrote alongside an emoji of a bandaged love heart, showing off his wrapped fingers.

The former I’m a Celeb contestant hurt his fingers while training for Dancing on Ice alongside Love Island’s Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu, who also pictured at the Pride of Britain event alongside boyfriend Davide Sanclimenti.

After hurting himself during training, Joey revealed the injury on Instagram, where he wrote: "Respect the ice, otherwise the ice will not respect you… Day 2.”

Maura has also taken to Instagram after the kissing pics, as she re-posted a video of her licking her friend's face.

In a video, Maura is seen sticking out her tongue and almost licking her friend, make-up artist Krystal Dawn's, face.

"She's a licker," Krystal wrote on the video alongside a shrugging emoji, with Maura jokingly adding: "It's how I greet people."

The pair's kissing pictures come after Maura split from Strictly Come Dancing’s Giovanni Pernice, whom she had dated for four months, last year.

After fans speculated about the breakup, going as far as to say that one of Giovanni’s performances was a dig at his ex, the dancer took to Instagram to set things straight.

He wrote on his story: "Firstly, great relationships with great people can come to a natural end. This has been the case for me recently. There was absolutely no wrongdoing and this should be the end of any speculation.

"While I respect and understand the interest in my personal life, wouldn't it be fantastic to instead use this space to raise awareness of subjects and issues that need attention?

"My eyes have been opened to so many things during my career, bu I am learning so much from this series of Strictly. This show has highlighted many important conversations for different communities and increased representation. These are the conversations which deserve the time, energy and recognition."

Meanwhile, Joey recently told OK! that he’s “more single than ever”, having previously dated the likes of Lorena Medina, Amy Willerton, Amber Turner and Sam Faiers.

"I'll put it out there – I'm more single than I've ever been in my life," he said earlier this month.

"But at the same time, I've been there and done that with having girlfriends and minor flings now.

"If I'm going to have a proper serious girlfriend in the spotlight now, and she's going to be welcomed into my family and my life, she has to be 'it'. She's got to be The One."

"I won't be doing that until I know it's going to be long-term. It would have to be the person that I know I'm going to have kids with," Joey added.
