Jeremy Clarkson: ‘Journey is tricky’ Grand Tour host reacts to new show idea

Jeremy Clarkson and his co-stars, Richard Hammond and James May, swapped cars for boats to sail across the Mekong River in the new The Grand Tour season 4 one-off special. Following the episode airing on Amazon Prime earlier this month, the presenter said they want to make a new one in a cold country.

However, the petrolhead said they will have to cross Iceland off their list as he revealed it would be too “tricky”, after a fan suggested the country.

One person initially said to Jeremy: “@JeremyClarkson I don’t know if you’ve ever been to Sri Lanka but that would be a sweet place for a #GrandTourSpecial. Such a lovely country.”

Jeremy replied: “I have. Loved it very much. But we need to be cold next time I think.”

Another replied to him: “If it’s cold you want how about Iceland? Gorgeous country.”

“I know,” Jeremy responded. “Been going for years.”

Explaining the difficulties they would entail, he continued: “But you aren’t allowed to drive off road. Apart from on the glaciers. So a journey is tricky.”

During the first special, the trio encountered many problems throughout their mission.

At the end, they faced an horrific ride to reach the Mekong Delta as they got a little lost and decided to travel in their boats through the rough sea.

Jeremy admitted he wanted it to be “over” as soon as possible as they struggled with the awful weather conditions.

He told Express.co.uk: “I sort of plodded on and then just went really fast because I wanted it to be over which actually seemed to make it better.”

Jeremy said he worried more for the production and camera team as they got lost.

He went on to say: “I didn’t care about James and Richard, but the camera guys and the production team, they were really quite scared.”

The former Top Gear presenter also revealed his co-star, James, had a “temper tantrum” during filming.

“It took hours, there’s a lot of farting about when you’re filming.” he revealed.

“Then we all got separated, James had a temper tantrum and threw his radio in the sea.”

He added: “When I got to the end there was no camera crew waiting and that’s never happened, so that was when I started to think ‘hang on’.”

Meanwhile, Jeremy presented a celebrity version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? which aired on Christmas Day.

The host even made a dig at contestant, former Coronation Street actress, Catherine Tyldesley, for not “achieving as much as” Clare Balding who was also on the show.

“So you’re Catherine Tyldesley,” Jeremy began. “You haven’t achieved anything like as much as Clare…”

“I mean Clare is a massive over-achiever I think,” the host continued.

Despite the dig, Catherine left the show with £8,000 for her chosen charity, Dancing With Dementia, despite making it to the £64,000 question.
