'I had to change the locks on the door' – Amanda Byram reveals she had 'string of random, horrendous boyfriends' while living in LA

Amanda Byram has revealed she had a difficult relationship history in her thirties when she was living in LA.

The 45-year-old Irish presenter, who has been happily married to TV producer Julian Okines for the past three years, opened up about her previous dating history for the Two Non Blondes podcast.

“I had a couple of long term relationships in America, a couple of guys cheated, that was all devastating,” she said of her time living in LA.

“Then I had a string of random, horrendous boyfriends out there,” she added, revealing that one “stalked me for about six months – I had to change the locks on the door and everything.”

Amanda was 37 at the time and felt the time was then right to return home to a “safe environment” as she was ready to meet a partner.

She went on to meet her ex-fiance, former rugby player Craig McMullen, at her best friend’s wedding and they got engaged and were due to marry in April 2011.

However, Amanda called off the wedding with just one month to go because she realised she was suffering from depression that was linked to the fact that she did not want to get married.

“I was way more obsessed with the wedding than the thought of the marriage itself,” she said.

“He was a really nice guy, a really, really, really lovely guy. He would have made a great dad, because that’s what I was always thinking about, ‘is this the father of my children?’.  He just was hot, he was Aussie, all of this stuff so he ticked loads of boxes.”

The wedding was postponed but the couple stayed together until the end of the year, before finally deciding to go their separate ways.

Three years later she met Julian and they tied the knot in an intimate ceremony at London’s Oriental Mandarin Hotel in 2016.

Speaking about the pressures women face regarding age and marriage, she said, “Ignore all of those pressures because nothing means anything, nothing means a thing.  Age really doesn’t matter.  It doesn’t matter a s***.”

Amanda also spoke about her interest in health and fitness, qualifying as a persoal trainer, and her previous struggles with food and body image.
